H-P, NetObjects to unveil 3-year deal
By Chris Kraeuter, CBS.MarketWatch.com
Last Update: 4:06 PM ET July 27, 2001

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. (CBS.MW) -- NetObjects and Hewlett-Packard will announce a three-year, multimillion-dollar distribution and services deal on Monday for H-P to use NetObjects software in its digital imaging devices.

H-P will include NetObjects` Matrix and Fusion software in H-P`s digital imaging devices, paying NetObjects for each device shipped. The deal will at first involve two new scanners. NetObjects will also receive a share of revenue generated from services tied to its software. H-P will have a renewal option after the third year.

Matrix and Fusion are software packages that allow users to easily build Web sites with advanced features such as electronic commerce. Fusion also offers subscriptions to services that help business continue to expand their Internet presences.

"From a company-model perspective, this is very important," said NetObjects Chairman and CEO Samir Arora, in an interview with CBS.MarketWatch.com. "The way to gauge the health of NetObjects is the announcement of these deals."
-

Arora said the company has two more major deals with hardware vendors yet to be announced. "Each is large, deep and forward-looking and proves that our model is beginning to work," he said.
-

H-P`s stock (HWP: news, chart, profile) closed up 36 cents, or 1.5 percent, at $24.36 on Friday. H-P did not immediately return a call for comment about the NetObjects deal.

NetObjects stock (NETO: news, chart, profile) popped up 15 cents, or 27 percent, at 70 cents.

NetObjects had a hearing Thursday in front of the Nasdaq Listings Qualifications board regarding its noncompliance with the exchange`s listing requirements.

Arora said he had no announcements regarding the hearing except that NetObjects continues to work with the Nasdaq. "They are looking for what is the business model and what is the health of the company, and we think as NetObjects focuses on this new model we are really beginning to move to the next stage of the company."
