Measure of economic growth well below forecasts and 2Q gain
October 27, 2000: 8:41 a.m. ET
NEW YORK (CNNfn) - The U.S. economy slowed in the third quarter to a 2.7 percent annual growth rate, the slowest pace since the spring of 1999, the government reported Friday.
Investment by American businesses and a cut in federal outlays helped blunt increased spending by consumers, the Commerce Department said. Analysts surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast a 3.5 percent growth rate in the quarter, down from 5.6 percent in the second quarter.
The GDP chain deflator, a measure of inflationary pressures, rose 2.0 percent in the quarter, the department said. That was also below forecasts for a 2.3 percent rise and the second quarter's 2.4 percent increase.
:o)
The futures markets lost some ground following the GDP release but remained comfortably higher. December S&P 500 futures rose 7.60 points, or 0.7 percent, and were trading roughly 3.30 points above fair value, according to figures provided by HL Camp & Co. Nasdaq futures, in the meantime, put on 47.50 points, or 1.5 percent.
Nicht schlecht sieht es auch bei den Preisen aus.
