Rakuten Invests In Singapore Home Share For Business Travelers
By PYMNTS
Posted on April 11, 2017

There’s little doubt that the home share sector is beginning to boom globally among business travelers, with millennials adopting the practice at a greater rate than their older counterparts (as millennials are wont to do).

For their part, Rakuten recently made a major investment in a Singapore startup as a means to break into the growing business travel side of home share.
The Japanese internet company just pitched in SG$4 million ($2.8 million) to Singapore-based home share startup MetroResidences, a service that matches corporate employees looking to rent properties for a month or more in Singapore with owners seeking short-term tenants. The funding goes toward MetroResidences’ Series A round.

Investors in this new round of funding include KKR, Warburg Pincus, Farallon Capital, Capital Group Private Markets, existing shareholders and other international investors. Go-Jek also revealed for the first time that Rakuten Ventures was among their earlier investors.

The move is believed to enable the Jakarta-based startup to strengthen its position in its home country in competing with industry rivals. It also took on Uber and Grab head-on with the launch of Go-Car in April.

and Currencycloud the best

New York, NY, September 25, 2017 – Leading international payments platform Currencycloud has received a 2017 API Award for its innovative Payment APIs. The 2017 API Awards are the API Industry’s largest award event, taking place during the API World 2017 Conference & Expo, the world’s largest API conference & expo with 3,000+ attendees.

The 2017 API Awards received hundreds of nominations, and the API World advisory board selected Currencycloud’s product based on three criteria: reputation in the API industry, recent media coverage, and innovativeness of the API initiatives.

“Currencycloud’s Payment Engine is a great example of how more and more of the tech industry is realizing that APIs are not just how we integrate tools and apps, APIs are the new way of doing business and building new revolutionary technologies,” said Geoff Domoracki, Founder of API World.

C2C is a growing market in Japan, and Rakuma is gaining traction as a major player. While the new Rakuma will occupy the number two spot in the industry, the team isn’t about to stop there.
“We are already making around 140 billion yen in annualized sales. We want to continue to grow exponentially,” explains Matsumura. “We are aiming for number one.”
