CASPER — The uranium industry is bullish amid resurgent prices and a welcoming atmosphere in the top state for uranium reserves.
Industry representatives were eager to talk about mining more uranium in Wyoming during a Wyoming Mining Association news conference Thursday.
Uranium prices topped $130 per pound in 2007. Prices are only half that now but are up more than 50 percent since last summer.
That could be good news for Jeffrey City, a central Wyoming community that has been a ghost town since the local uranium industry went bust in the 1980s. Titan Uranium USA Inc. plans to reopen a uranium mine in the area.
Meanwhile, Cameco Resources plans to double production of uranium in Wyoming by 2018. Cameco is the largest miner of uranium in the U.S.
About 40 percent of U.S. uranium reserves are in Wyoming.
