Sunlight to Electricity Today

Evergreen Solar is a developer and manufacturer of photovoltaic (PV) modules - the engines of solar electric systems - used in remote power and emerging grid-connected markets.

The PV modules produced by Evergreen Solar are distinctive in their appearance because they incorporate proprietary crystalline silicon technology known as String Ribbon. This technology, explained further on, enables an innovative approach to manufacturing dependable and cost-effective PV modules.

The Company, formed in 1994, is financed by institutional investors who specialize in growing successful energy and high-technology companies.

Evergreen Solar's senior management team and staff are steeped in photovoltaics and related industry experience, with specific expertise in the scientific development, manufacturing, and marketing of PV products and processes.

Evergreen Solar is located in Marlboro, Massachusetts (USA), along the Route 495 High-Technology Highway, west of Boston. Its manufacturing facilities contain state of the art equipment for crystal growth, cell processing, and module lamination.

The Company maintains strong ties to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, including the active involvement of String Ribbon's inventor, Prof. Emanuel Sachs.

Evergreen Solar, founded in 1994, develops, manufactures and sells solar power products, primarily solar panels, that provide reliable and environmentally clean electric power throughout the world. The three markets the Company serves are: wireless power, rural electrification and grid-connected applications. The Company expects to exploit its proprietary and patented technology to produce distinctive products, to reduce manufacturing costs through lower materials use and streamlined processes, and to manufacture internationally for global market penetration.

The solar panels produced by Evergreen Solar incorporate proprietary crystalline silicon technology known as String Ribbon wafer production, which uses approximately half the silicon and avoids the sawing of conventional approaches.

Recent Highlights:

In May 2003, Evergreen Solar completed a $29.5 million financing to a series a convertible preferred stock offering and the sale of a warrant to purchase common stock. The net proceeds of approximately $28.3 million will be used to fund the capacity expansion that will roughly quadruple manufacturing capacity to between 10 and 14 megawatts when both lines 1 and 2 are fully operations. The proceeds will also be deployed to strengthen sales initiatives and to support research and development activities.

To date, the Company has manufactured and shipped over 50,000 solar panels to five continents for residential, commercial and industrial applications.

Distribution agreements are in place with several partners including Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Krannich Solartechnik and Hutton Communications, which provide reach into multiple geographical markets.

German Chancellor Meets With Evergreen Solar and Q-Cells; Visit is Further Validation for Solar Power's Growing Economic Importance
6/8/05

THALHEIM, Germany, Jun 08, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

German Chancellor Gerhardt Schroeder met yesterday with Evergreen Solar (Nasdaq: ESLR) and Q-Cells AG in Thalheim, Germany, the city where a new $75 million solar panel manufacturing plant will be constructed by EverQ, a recently announced strategic partnership formed by the two firms. The Chancellor also met with CSG Solar AG, a Thalheim-based developer of solar panels.

Evergreen Solar, based in Marlboro, Massachusetts, is a manufacturer of solar power products that leverage its proprietary, low-cost String Ribbon(TM) wafer technology. Based in Germany, Q-Cells is the world's largest independent manufacturer of crystalline silicon solar cells.

"This is a great example of how environmental sensitivity and economic efficiency go together," Schroeder said. "Solar power has the potential to secure the future energy supply in Germany and worldwide."

The German government plans to provide the new EverQ manufacturing facility with grants totaling approximately $34 million at current exchange rates. Construction is set to begin in August and the plant is expected to create between 350 and 400 new jobs in the area. In total, the solar industry employs approximately 30,000 in Germany and created 5,000 new jobs for the country in 2004 alone. "Public funding of solar energy makes sense not only economically but also in terms of energy policy," Schroeder stated.

The solar power, or photovoltaic, market was over $7 billion in 2004 and is growing at more than 40 percent per year. Germany is the world's largest solar power market today, accounting for 40 percent of worldwide spending in 2004. Markets in Japan and the United States rank second and third, respectively.

"Evergreen Solar is establishing itself as a technology leader," stated Evergreen Solar President and Chief Executive Officer Richard M. Feldt. "Our ability to innovate and significantly reduce solar power manufacturing costs is the foundation upon which this strategic partnership was established. We believe the combination of our String Ribbon(TM) technology with Q-Cells' high efficiency cell processing and proven ability to scale manufacturing plants will enable us to become a world leader in the solar power industry."

"Germany has created a model for economic development by supporting the solar power industry that is now being emulated by nations throughout Europe and the world," Feldt concluded. "The continued strength of the German market and the increase in solar power adoption globally is helping to fuel Evergreen's continued expansion. We are eager to commence construction with Q-Cells on the EverQ plant, which we anticipate will be fully operational in the summer of 2006."

USD.
