Immunocore kann sich über einige wichtige Zulassungserfolge freuen: Kimmtrak wurde im Januar von der FDA und neulich von der Europäischen Kommission für eine seltene Form des metastasierten Melanoms zugelassen. Kimmtrak ist die erste T-Zell-Rezeptor (TCR)-Immuntherapie überhaupt, die von diesen Instanzen zugelassen wurde. Indem das Immunsystem des Patienten dazu gebracht wird, den Tumor anzugreifen, erhöht diese Therapie die Gesamtüberlebenszeit in der getesteten Patientengruppe. Da es bisher keine andere zugelassene Behandlung für diese Erkrankung gibt, ist dies eine gute Nachricht für die Patienten.
Die Erstzulassung von Kimmtrak für inoperable, metastasierte Aderhautmelanome ist ein winziger Markt. In den USA und der EU zusammen gibt es nur etwa Tausend infrage kommende Patienten, sodass selbst bei einem Listenpreis von 400.000 US-Dollar pro Jahr der gesamte adressierbare Markt von Kimmtrak wahrscheinlich weniger als 400 Mio. US-Dollar pro Jahr beträgt.
Die Anleger sollten jedoch das große Ganze betrachten. Das Management von Immunocore will die Behandlung als Nächstes auf den breiteren Melanom-Markt ausweiten, wobei eine Phase-2-Studie noch in diesem Jahr beginnen soll. Da es allein in den USA jährlich schätzungsweise 7.660 Todesfälle durch Melanome gibt, erhöht sich der gesamte adressierbare Markt für die Behandlung um mindestens 3 Mrd. US-Dollar.
Aber dies ist nicht nur die Geschichte eines einzelnen Medikaments - es ist die Geschichte einer ganzen Plattform und Behandlungsmethode. Das Unternehmen entwickelt Moleküle, die es dem eigenen Immunsystem des Patienten ermöglichen, Krebszellen zu erkennen und abzutöten. Wenn sein System funktioniert, sind die potenziellen jährlichen Einnahmen von Kimmtrak in Höhe von 3 Mrd. US-Dollar nur der Anfang. Immunocore schätzt den adressierbaren Markt für seine beiden anderen krebsbekämpfenden TCR-Moleküle, die sich in der ersten Testphase befinden, auf etwa 30.000 und 75.000 Patienten in den USA jährlich. Weitere Informationen zu diesen Studien werden in der zweiten Hälfte des Jahres 2022 erwartet. Aber wenn alles gesagt und getan ist, deutet der Preis der Behandlung von 400.000 Dollar auf einen Gesamtmarkt von 40 Mrd. US-Dollar jährlich hin.
Die Entwicklung dieser Medikamente befindet sich noch in einem frühen Stadium, aber wir werden bald mehr erfahren. Wenn sich immer deutlicher herausstellt, dass die TCR-Therapie vielversprechend ist, wird Immunocore meiner Meinung nach eine wichtige Rolle spielen.."
