ICE Reports Record Liquidity Across U.S., Global Futures Amid Natural Gas Price Hedging Frenzy
Natural gas traders are scrambling to manage volatility and uncertainty in U.S. and global prices, resulting in a frenzy of hedging activity across the markets served by Intercontinental Exchange Inc., aka ICE.

Plummeting natural gas prices, workforce shortages, cost inflation and frustration with federal policies are a few of the challenges giving U.S. oil and gas executives headaches, according to a new survey conducted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.

South Central storage withdrawals set a record low this winter heating season. Increased production of natural gas has also contributed to below-average storage withdrawals in the South Central storage region this winter heating season.
https://www.eia.gov/naturalgas/weekly/
U.S. natural gas prices have dipped in recent months due to warmer-than-usual winter weather which required lower volumes of withdrawals from storage. As a result, working natural gas stocks in storage were 21% higher than the five-year average and 31% more than last year.
Demand: Total U.S. consumption of natural gas fell by 7.6% (6.6 Bcf/d) compared with the previous report week, according to data from S&P Global Commodity Insights

Auffällig ist, dass der Gaspreis in Alberta (Kanada) wesentlich stabiler ist als die Gaspreise in den USA. Hier gibt es nach Region enorme Abweichungen.

Beispiel:

Houston 1.80
Southwest 4.75
Southern CA 5.80
Northern CA 7.10
Northwest 5.25

Banking crisis threat to energy markets: 5 charts show how banking stress & macro drivers (inflation, interest rates & monetary policy) are impacting commodity markets & European energy prices. The threat of a banking crisis triggered a strong market reaction with falling commodity prices and one of the sharpest ever declines in global interest rates, as markets priced in an increasing risk of a sharp economic contraction.

Natural gas posts worst quarterly drop of 50%: U.S. natural gas prices experienced what appeared to be their biggest plunge in a quarter, handing bulls in the space a loss of more than 50% for the December to March period, as an unusually warm winter led to a huge inventory of the fuel used for heating.

Tuesday:  After big warmer trends over the weekend, the weather data trended further warmer overnight and where the pattern for April 10-20 is now solidly bearish. If prices gain today, it clearly won’t be due to cold enough weather patterns. Image shows the pattern versus normal for April 15 and where most of the US will be very comfortable with highs of 60s to 80s.

    #7448

U.S. Natural Gas Prices Are “Begging For Supply Cuts”:  Milder-than-expected winter weather caused a surplus of natural gas, leading to a 50% drop in gas futures since the beginning of the year.  Despite some gas producers reducing drilling, natural gas output from oil operations in shale fields is expected to continue flowing, as gas prices are still too low to discourage output gains.  While the U.S. government projects an increase in gas production and a bump in LNG exports, falling U.S. consumption and the surplus of gas in storage may put further pressure on gas prices in the coming months.
https://oilprice.com/Energy/Natural-Gas/...gging-For-Supply-Cuts.html
How The U.S. Became A Natural Gas Giant:    From a position of relative obscurity less than a decade ago, U.S. natural gas and liquefied natural gas (LNG) export capacity has expanded rapidly since the Lower 48 states first began exporting LNG in 2016. The U.S. now exports LNG to 40 countries across the globe. The United States has the world’s largest backlog of near-shovel-ready liquefied natural gas projects, and takeaway capacity remains a bottleneck.

EIA Natural Gas Weekly Update: Net withdrawals from working natural gas stocks were the lowest in seven years during the 2022–23 heating season
https://www.eia.gov/naturalgas/weekly/
The 2023 pre-summer injection season is starting with one of the most bloated gas storages, courtesy of a winter that ran mostly warm, with one of the fewest snow storms ever. Typically, this is a time when storage is at seasonal lows after large and consistent withdrawals during winter when gas is burned for heating.
