was macht ascot heute und jetzt.....?
bescheidene informatiospolitik...
Ascott Mining Company allegedly squeezing independent miners

Later on in this special report from the team behind the SF t1ps Smaller Companies Gold Fund we identify 5 stocks which those interested in shares rather than funds might buy to make money from the continuing surge in the gold price. Myself I plan to benefit from that rally from our gold fund and, accordingly, I have bought more units in it today. But I am sure you are asking why should gold carry on going up and why are gold shares not racing ahead already?
Why will gold head higher? Simple. It is a currency – one of 4 major currencies in the world. In Japan the Yen will be undermined by a stagnant economy which will inevitably see more Quantatitve easing (the printing of money). In the US we also expect more QE given the absolutely dire economic data of late which shows that economic recovery is very slow and totally jobless. As a "bonus" the fact that the US GDP/Debt ratio is heading towards Greek levels within two years must lead to a downgrade of that debt which will really undermine the dollar. The Euro? You do not need me to explain its woes.
The net result is that the countries with money (in Asia and the Middle East) are increasingly nervous about holding so many dollars (not to mention Euro) and are buying physical gold. Just in the past week Thailand and (for the first time in years) Korea have been buying. The Chinese and Indians remain aggressive buyers. Gold will, we believe, pass through $1750 this year and $2,100 by Easter. Even then, in real terms, it would be below the levels seen in 1980.
As to gold equities. They have had a poor 2011 despite the gold price. Quite simply equity markets did not believe that gold would head higher. Just look at the forecasts made by the big brokers for 2011 averages (they range from $1300 to $1500). They were wrong. Against that backdrop and with rising oil prices squeezing margins and amid general nervousness about equities they have slipped back. The net result is that a raft of mid-cap producers can now be bought on 2 or 3 times cashflow (even using a $1500 gold price). If we are correct about gold prices those multiples, thanks to operational gearing, fall to 1 to 2.
Given how cash generative producers are these ridiculously low ratings are already driving a raft of bids in Canada and Australia. The UK will follow. That, and the general realisation that gold is moving ahead sharply will drive a dramatic re-rating. Indeed that process is already underway. In Canada last night a number of the stocks we own were ahead by 5-10%. The re-rating which is on the way will be dramatic. We naturally expect that this will drive the NAV of the SF t1ps Smaller Companies Gold Fund higher and that is why I have again bought more units today. But if you prefer individual stocks below we outline 5 that we are buying

Gold Investing Ideas 4 & 5
Idea 4 Ascot Mining (ASMP:PLUS)
Currently trading at 39.5p, capitalising the company at GBP24.5 million, Ascot Mining remains one of our top picks and subsequently a core holding within our Gold Fund. Very little news flow has trickled out over the past two months but as of 1st July 2011 the company announced that a revised competent person's 43-101 statement was being prepared which would allow the commencement of the regulatory AIM application.
This is what the market is waiting for and we reckon that a ten day announcement would see buyers that are currently sitting on the side lines, very frustrated by the wait, jump in and pick up some stock. In our view, despite the delays the fundamental story remains the same. There has been limited guidance recently in regard to production and Gold output but Chassoul has the potential to produce Gold at 2,000oz a month. At a cash cost of $550/oz and a $1500 Gold price this should generate an annualised GBP14 million of free cash a year putting the company on a multiple of just 1.75 times projected cash flow. However, the upside here is that from surrounding operations production could be ramped up to 3,000 ounces a month which then sees the company trade on a projected multiple of little more than one. Of particular note is the Tros Hermanos project which contain, we reckon, more than 1 million ounces of gold. That should be confirmed by the Competent Persons Report, the publication of which we expect shortly.
There is however also a wild card from the company's historic La Toyota interest which could see the current market cap look even more derisory than it does at the minute. Ascot lost this asset two years ago but has taken legal action to reclaim it. If it wins, this asset is arguably worth more than Chassoul. But based on just the immediate value realisation from production at Chassoul, upon announcement of the move to AIM we are confident that the shares will be rerated given the relative increase liquidity and marketability of a stock when traded on AIM as opposed to PLUS. Initial price target simply based on publishing the CPR and getting to AIM is approaching a quid a share. Incidentally our Growth fund sold some Ascot the other day. We did that to comply with FSA rules on fund percentage holdings. The buyer was Woodbourne Square, an AIM listed company where Tom Winnifrith is the investment manager. Would we want to sell at 39.5p? No way!
