SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) -- Airline stocks closed down Tuesday with the Amex
Airline Index off 2.9 percent amid high oil prices and terrorism concerns.
Among the bigger decliners, AMR , Continental Airlines and Delta Air Lines
losing ground.

Cisco earnings drop on rule change, but sales jump SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) - Cisco Systems announced late Tuesday that fiscalsecond-quarter net income fell due to an accounting rule change, but the world'slargest networking company boosted sales 15 percent to $5.4 billion.Cisco Chief Executive John Chambers said in a press release that the globaleconomy is improving and his company is gaining momentum in the consumer space.Shares fell 26 cents to $26.15 soon after the announcement in late trading. For the quarter ended on Jan. 24, San Jose, Calif.-based Cisco reported netincome of $724 million, or 10 cents a share, on revenue of $5.4 billion. Duringthe same quarter last year, Cisco earned $991 million, or 14 cents a share, onrevenue of $4.7 billion. Excluding a $567 million charge for an accounting change that the companyreferred to during the previous quarter, Cisco earned 18 cents a share, a pennybetter than analysts expected. Sales also exceed the average target of $5.29billion established by Wall Street analysts.Cisco Systems predicted at the start of the period that revenue could be between$5.15 billion and $5.25 billion with gross margins of 67 to 69 percent.Actual gross margin was 68.5 percent compared with 68.7 percent during theprevious quarter.During the quarter, Cisco announced it was buying Latitude Communications, amaker of business conferencing products, for $80 million in cash. luft beim sport verschafft...denke das war die richtige
reaktion! ...hat natürlich zu knabbern an den Tag heute,
doch er schaut positiv nach vorne, wird die kommenden tage
aber eher verhalten bis gar nichts machen...ist verständlich,
wird den kopf aber nicht in den sand stecken, wer ihn kennt
hat auch nichts anderes erwartet ;-)
denn ein tag mal gar nichts zu machen um wieder
volle konzentration zu erlangen, nachdem man
gute gewinne eingefahren hat, ist oft nicht
verkehrt...aber hinterher ist man bekanntlich immer
erst schlauer.

SAN FRANCISCO (AFX) - Sina.com succeeded where rival Sohu.com failed
Tuesday, as the Chinese Internet media company piqued buyers' interest in
extended action after easily surpassing Wall Street fourth-quarter estimates.
Sina.com posted a net profit of $9.3 million, or 16 cents a share, up from $1.5
million, or 3 cents a share, a year ago.
Revenue grew by 197 percent to $38.3 million, topping targets by $2.3 million.
Excluding charges, the company earned 28 cents a share, vs. 4 cents a share a
year earlier. Analysts polled by Reuters Research expected a profit of 24 cents
a share.
Looking ahead, Sina.com pegs first-quarter earnings per share at between 27
cents and 29 cents on total sales in a range of $39.5 million to $40.5 million.
"Not only will we continue to focus on our two core businesses of online
advertising and mobile value-added services," said COO Hurst Lin in a statement,
"we will be stepping up our efforts in e-commerce as is evidenced by our entry
into online travel and auction through the acquisition of Fortune Trip and joint
venture with Yahoo , respectively."
Shares of Sina.com closed down $3.79, or 8.1 percent, at $43.10 before moving
above $44 in after-hours trading.
