Shanghai, April 14 (Gasgoo.com) China's major automaker Dongfeng Motor Group Co (0489.HK) expects to have opportunities for mergers and acquisitions in the global auto sector that is still reeling from the fallout of the global recession, Reuters reported today.
"The company will closely monitor opportunities for overseas acquisitions," Xu Ping, chairman of the Hong Hong-listed company of Dongfeng Motor Corp, told reporters in a news conference on today.
Xu added that the possible appreciation of China's currency, the yuan, would further strengthen Dongfeng's position in making any acquisitions. The Chinese yuan is believed to see it value rise again in the next few months. And some Chinese auto companies hope to "go global" by M&A.

The president of Dongfeng Motor Co., a joint venture in China between Japanese automaker Nissan Motor Co. and China's Dongfeng group, expressed a desire Friday to produce electric vehicles there.
"We'd like to make (the vehicle) locally as early as possible," Dongfeng Motor President Kimiyasu Nakamura said in an interview in Yokohama with Kyodo News, referring to the Leaf electric vehicle that is planned to be launched in China next year.
Dongfeng Motor is Nissan's 50-50 venture with the Dongfeng group.
While hinting at a possibility of teaming up with a Chinese parts maker if the company starts producing the car in China, Nakamura avoided specifying any timing that the automaker would start production.
"We'd like to study (the timing) by looking into sales volume and government measures to boost car purchases," Nakamura said.
Meanwhile, Nakamura said new car sales in China are likely to top 15 million vehicles this year, and added the automaker aims to achieve a 2010 sales target of 1 million units by November."

Dongfeng showed off the fantastic Tai Concept Car at the Beijing Auto Show, although it seemed to be fairly a demure stand at Dongfeng which mostly showed off their joint venture produced wares instead of their self produced vehicles.
The Tai Concepet car was Dongfeng’s shot at bringing their own brand upmarket, which is something that most Chinese makers are aiming to produce over the next few months to explore new markets, both Chery, Geely and Hawtai are aiming for this segment, whilst Dongfeng are playing catch up.
Out of the major state owned automakers, Dongfeng is certainly slipping behind in their ability to launch their own branded cars. FAW and SAIC are already leading the way with their self developed B50/B70 and MG6/Roewe 550 models, Dongfeng is not the only late comer though, Guangzhou Auto is on the verge of building its own cars and so are Beijing Auto but the difference here is that Beijing and Guangzhou Auto are using tried and tested platforms in the form of the Saab platforms and the Alfa-Romeo platforms, but it appears that Dongfeng are quite content with using the Citroen ZX platform for their S30 sedan.
The future does not bode well for Dongfeng if they plan to go global."

Among them, sales of Fengxing Joyear (Jingyi) had a year-on-year growth of 94%, much higher than the overall growth of the domestic passenger car market. The 2010 Joyear uses a reinforced chassis, which provides protection to the fuel tank when it is running on a bumpy road so as to improve the whole car's performance.
Besides, the 2010 Joyear adopts as many as 15 key NVH technologies. NVH refers to noise, vibration and harshness, three standards for evaluating the comfort level of a car. In additional to the booming market in Shenzhen, Joyear is also a sought-after car in other areas. Tao Liwen, general manager of the marketing department in Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd, said Joyear's approximately 100% growth rate is attributed to its stabilized quality, coupled with the changes of lifestyle brought about by Chinese economic development."

Nissan have been very generous to their joint venture partner, Dongfeng, as they have granted them the use of the popular Nissan Tiida platform on which to build their next self developed model.
Dongfeng’s entry into the self developed automobile industry has lagged behind other state manufacturers, however with some serious platforms and technologies under their belts it is expected that they will make quick advances into the market, although they are largely lagging behind the likes of Chery and Geely.
Previously it was rumored that the last generation of Nissan Sunny was to become a Dongfeng self developed vehicle, instead Nissan are planning to bring the car back from the grave and breath new life into it.
According to Dongfeng Nissan from its launch until February 2010 the Tiida range has already sold 600,000 units in China and over 60% of its internals are locally sourced, which means that this platform will be a great head start for Dongfeng’s own car ambitions."

Shanghai, June 23 (Gasgoo.com) Media reported that Dongfeng Yueda Kia is set to launch three new models in the second half of this year, including a modified Cerato (Sailatu) with a new black interior, a small modified Forte (Furuidi) model and a heavyweight new vehicle SLC, which joined hands with Sportage (Shipao) in making Kia SUV famous.
In the first five months, DF Yueda Kia's accumulated sales volume had a year-on-year growth of 94%, to 135,800 units, outperforming the market average by three times.
In fact, starting from April, the automobile market in South China didn't heat up as the weather did. On the contrary, it has a trend of moving into the off-season. Various brands accelerated their paces of price cutting.
In face of this, a source from Kia announced that instead of getting involved in price war, they will keep an eye on the market trends, taking effective measures to respond to all kinds of changes in the market and making efforts to upgrade their service.
Jiang Yubin, vice minister of the sales department of Kia Motors, said that the company has an enormous development scope in South China. Kia devoted more efforts in constructing the network, planning to add another 94 outlets this year to increase the total number of outlets to 440. Besides that, this year Kia will have two more 4S stores in the Guangdong market alone."
