... "Die Furcht vor einer Eskalation der Euro-Krise hat am Dienstag die Börsen dies- und jenseits des Atlantiks in Aufruhr versetzt. Unter den Anlegern wuchs die Angst vor einem unkontrollierten Bankrott Griechenlands und vor einem Abwärtstrend der Weltwirtschaft.

An der Wall Street steuerte der S&P 500 mit einem Minus von 1,5 Prozent auf seinen größten Tagesverlust seit Dezember zu und lag bei 1343 Zählern. Der Dow-Jones-Index der Standardwerte verringerte sich um 1,6 Prozent, fiel zeitweise um mehr als 200 Punkte und blieb bei 12.759 Zählern stehen. Der Index der Technologiebörse Nasdaq verringerte sich um 1,4 Prozent auf 2910 Punkte.

Auch der DAX stürzte um 233 Punkte oder 3,4 Prozent auf 6633 Zähler ab. Noch am Freitag hatte er über 6900 Punkten notiert. Der französische Leitindex CAC 40 und der italienische FTSE/MIB verloren mehr als drei Prozent.

Einen ersten Tiefschlag hatten die Anleger schon am Vormittag erlitten: Das europäische Statistikamt Eurostat gab bekannt, dass die Wirtschaftsleistung in der Euro-Zone im Schlussquartal 2011 um 0,3 Prozent geschrumpft ist.

Obwohl die Zahl lediglich eine frühere Schätzung bestätigte, fiel daraufhin der Euro um einen halben US-Cent. Der Analyst Howard Archer vom Researchhaus IHS Global Insights führte die empfindliche Marktreaktion auf die unschönen Details der Statistik zurück: So schrumpfte die italienische Wirtschaft im vierten Quartal um 0,7 Prozent.

Die Sorge um Griechenland erhielt neue Nahrung durch Bekanntwerden einer Schätzung des Bankenverbands IIF, derzufolge ein Austritt des Landes aus der Euro-Zone rund 1000 Mrd. Euro kosten könnte"...

Singapore Seeks To Be Asian Bullion Hub With Tax Free Gold and Silver

"Another sign of Asia's increasing importance in the global gold market is news that Singapore is planning to boost its share of global gold trade sevenfold after scrapping taxes on gold, silver and platinum bullion.

This is the aim of the International Enterprise Singapore, the city state's external trade agency according to Bloomberg.

Currently just 2% of world gold demand flows through Singapore and Singapore is aiming to increase that to 10% to 15% over the next five to 10 years, Kathy LAI, assistant chief executive officer at IE Singapore, said.

Singapore will exempt investment grade gold, silver and platinum from the 7% goods and services tax to turn the country into a bullion trading hub, Finance Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam told parliament in his budget speech on February 17. The change, which takes effect on Oct. 1, will apply to gold of 99.5 percent purity, silver of 99.9 percent purity and platinum of 99 percent purity.

"Most other financial centers consider gold as a financial asset so few place any kind of tax on precious metals and we discovered that it was an impediment," said IE Singapore's LAI. "We noted that gold demand increasingly is dominated by Asian consumers and investors and we feel that this is something we may have missed out on."

Asia doesn't have a so-called gold hub, where there's a critical mass of traders and storage, like in London and Zurich, said LAI.

"Vis-a-vis Dubai, we are a more credible financial center, vis-a-vis Hong Kong, we are seen as not part of China and therefore more neutral," she said.

This is another step towards price discovery in the precious metals market being related to supply and demand of the physical metal and not the MACHINATIONS of banks and hedge funds MANIPULATING the paper gold market on the COMEX"...  -  HOSSA..!

Why I Am Leaving Goldman Sachs

"TODAY is my last day at Goldman Sachs. After almost 12 years at the firm — first as a summer intern while at Stanford, then in New York for 10 years, and now in London — I believe I have worked here long enough to understand the trajectory of its culture, its people and its identity. And I can honestly say that the environment now is as toxic and destructive as I have ever seen it.

To put the problem in the simplest terms, the interests of the client continue to be sidelined in the way the firm operates and thinks about making money. Goldman Sachs is one of the world’s largest and most important investment banks and it is too integral to global finance to continue to act this way. The firm has veered so far from the place I joined right out of college that I can no longer in good conscience say that I identify with what it stands for.

It might sound surprising to a skeptical public, but culture was always a vital part of Goldman Sachs’s success. It revolved around teamwork, integrity, a spirit of humility, and always doing right by our clients. The culture was the secret sauce that made this place great and allowed us to earn our clients’ trust for 143 years. It wasn’t just about making money; this alone will not sustain a firm for so long. It had something to do with pride and belief in the organization. I am sad to say that I look around today and see virtually no trace of the culture that made me love working for this firm for many years. I no longer have the pride, or the belief.

But this was not always the case. For more than a decade I recruited and mentored candidates through our grueling interview process. I was selected as one of 10 people (out of a firm of more than 30,000) to appear on our recruiting video, which is played on every college campus we visit around the world. In 2006 I managed the summer intern program in sales and trading in New York for the 80 college students who made the cut, out of the thousands who applied.

I knew it was time to leave when I realized I could no longer look students in the eye and tell them what a great place this was to work [for]"...

Der etwas melodramatisch intonierte Abschied des Greg SMITH von seinem Brötchen-Geber Goldman SACHS wurde ob seiner altbacken anmuthenden Gestelztheit im InterNet bereits vielfältig auf die Schüppe genommen. - GUT so!

Man sollte aber auch nicht vergessen, dass sich selbst im kläglichsten Beginnen ein durchaus ernst zu nehmener TREND-Wechsel ankündigen kann.

Und ob das im Falle des Greg-Smith-Abschiedes auch so sein wird, werden wir sehen.

Pan American Acquires Minefinders

"Pan American Silver Corp. (TSX: PAA) (NASDAQ: PAAS) says that they have completed the acquisition Minefinders Corporation Ltd. (TSX: MFL) (NYSE/AMEX: MFN).

Minefinders shareholders who chose the full proration option received C$1.84 and 0.55 of a Pan American share in respect of each of their Minefinders shares while former Minefinders shareholders who elected the Pan American share option received 0.6235 Pan American shares and C$0.0001 for each of their Minefinders shares, the company says. Those who elected the cash option received CDN$2.0306 and 0.5423 of a Pan American share in respect of each of their shares, the company says.

“This strategic transaction increases our near-term silver and gold production and cash flow, and meaningfully reduces our average cash costs across our eight producing mines, while at the same time geographically de-risking our overall portfolio,” says Geoff Burns, president and chief executive officer of Pan American.

“In addition, Pan American should reap the benefits of a sector leading and well sequenced growth profile.” Minefinders shares will be de-listed from the TSX and the NYSE Amex. Pan American is a Canadian-based silver mining company with eight operating mines in Mexico, Peru, Argentina and Bolivia".

Building a Bullish Case for Silver's Long Term Prospects

"After the big move in 2011 was summarily ‘dealt with’, which sent the precious metal’s price down from a peak of $46.82 on April 24th down to a low of $26.05 by September 25th, many silver bulls have found themselves reviewing their perhaps picture of the metal’s future prospects.

Reduced concerns about another round of quantitative easing by the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank have also diminished silver’s luster for some would-be mainstream investors, especially in the short term.

Nevertheless, a strong bullish case can still be made for continuing to hold the white metal over a longer term period, which would encompass the next three to five years, on a relatively straightforward basis of how supply and demand factors should ultimately impact silver’s price. These factors will be discussed in greater detail below.

Southern Silver Intersects 26.1 metres of 67g/t Silver, 2.8% Lead and 3.3% Zinc (239g/t AgEq) on Cerro Las Minitas; Amends Private Placement

"Southern Silver Exploration Corp. - [WKN: A0B69C; ISIN: CA8438141043] - (TSX.V: SSV) reported today that newly received assays results continue to extend both the on-strike and depth projection of high-grade silver-polymetallic mineralization at the Blind and El Sol zones on the Cerro Las Minitas project, located in Durango State, Mexico.

El Sol Zone

Drilling on the El Sol zone has returned a 26.1 metre interval averaging 67g/t silver, 2.8% lead and 3.3% zinc (239g/t AgEq) including a 1.8 metre interval averaging 163g/t silver, 6.9% lead and 8.8% zinc (619g/t AgEq) from drill hole 12CLM-044. The hole tested the target approximately 50 metres to the northwest of drill hole 11CLM-027 (24.8 metres of 124g/t Ag, 1.9% Pb and 2.1% Zn), and continues to demonstrate the lateral continuity of this mineralized zone.

Blind Zone

Drilling on the Blind zone continues the process of delineation of the both the lateralextent and internal continuity of the mineralized zone. Results from the northwest extension of the zone include:

a 4.6 metre interval averaging 146g/t silver, 3.0% lead and 2.8% zinc (472g/t AgEq) from drill hole 12CLM-041, and
a 4.2 metre interval averaging 145g/t silver, 2.7% lead and 2.0% zinc (305g/t AgEq) from drill hole 12CLM-043
The company also reported that a silver-enriched mineralized interval, which was identified in drill hole 12CLM-042, has further extended the strike length of drill indicted mineralization in the Blind zone to 800 metres and remains open along strike to the southeast.

AVINO INTERSECTS 142 G/T SILVER OVER 28.8 METERS AT MAIN AVINO VEIN

"Avino Silver & Gold Mines Ltd. (“Avino” or “The Company”) - [WKN: 862191; ISIN: CA0539061030; Symbol: ASM oder ASM.TO] - is pleased to announce the results from first hole of the 2012 drill program on the Elena – Tolosa (“ET”) zone at its main mine located 80 km NE of Durango, Mexico.

The hole is part of a program to explore an area of the main Avino vein system below the 12th level of the mine where the company ceased mining in 2001 due to low metals prices and the closure of a key smelter.

Remaining resources at the time of the closure, mostly below level 11 (as calculated by mine staff, historic, non NI43-101 compliant) were 1,681,253 tons at 100 g/t silver, 0.92 g/t gold and 0.63% copper. Drilling in the area between 2006 and 2012 will significantly add to this total.

In February 2012, Avino announced a new agreement allowing the company to once again mine main Avino vein. The 2012 drill program on the main Avino vein is intended to increase confidence in the resource as well as to expand tonnage and is the first step towards bringing the mine back on line"...
