Graphene nanoplatelets, led by composites and energy storage applications, will
drive growth but graphene films will mostly remain in the lab, says Lux Research
BOSTON--(Business Wire)-- Graphene, touted as the next wunderkind material because of its extraordinary properties, will grow to a $126 million market in 2020, from its $9 million base
in 2012, according to Lux Research. While an impressive debut for a new material, this growth is less than some of the hype may suggest..

Graphite Stock Strategies for a Second Bubble: David Skarica
TICKERS: ALP, CCO; CCJ, ELD; EGO, FDR, LLG, MCP, NGC; NGPHF
Source: Alec Gimurtu of The Metals Report (1/15/13)
David Skarica, founder of Addicted to Profits, says another—bigger—graphite bubble is likely on its way. In this interview with The Metals Report, Skarica compares the graphite space to the rare earth and uranium arenas, making some interesting conclusions about what kinds of stocks perform best during market-wide roller coaster movements. However, he warns that the graphite space is different, with no clear industry leaders and a number of companies with high potential. His conclusion? Choose carefully..

Standard Graphite Corp.: Drilling Confirms New Graphite Zone and Expands Resource Potential at Mousseau East Project
VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Jan. 29, 2013) - Standard Graphite Corp. (TSX VENTURE:SGH)(OTCQX:DARDF) (the "Company") is pleased to report that the assay results from the 2012 drill program on the newly discovered Oat Zone confirms graphite mineralization (see press release September 11, 2012).
Chris Bogart, President and CEO of Standard comments: "The Oat Zone discovery is very critical for the development of the Mousseau East Project and we believe will contribute significantly to the expansion of the resource potential on the project. We are now confident that following this next program, Standard will have obtained sufficient geological information to conduct a resource estimate and move the project to its next stage of development."
The Oat Zone has now been traced over a strike length of 500m, shows significant widths and is known to crop-out to surface. Current geological interpretation of the Oat Zone concludes that is probably made up of several graphitic horizons and this model will need to be validated with further drilling.

A follow-up drill program has being planned for the Oat Zone and will commence upon permitting. The first objective will aim at testing the direct extensions of the wider graphitic horizons intercepted during the reconnaissance phase and secondly, to test areas with similar conductivity and geometry as that characterizing the main zone at Mousseau East for the possibility of hosting graphitic rocks.
The Mousseau East Property was acquired by Standard Graphite in April of 2012 (see press release April 24, 2012) and is located some 40 kilometres northeast of the town of Mont-Laurier in northwestern Québec and within 50 kilometres of Timcal Canada Inc.'s producing Lac-des-Îles Graphite Mine, which is currently the larger of the two producing mines in North America.
Antoine Fournier P. Geo., manages Standard's exploration and development programs and is the Qualified Person as defined by National Instrument 43-101. He supervised the preparation of the technical information in this release.

M12-30 + 31 gefallen mir irgendwie ;)!
Mal gucken, was der Markt gleich dazu sagt...
Standard will zügig in der Projektentwicklung voranschreiten:
"Chris Bogart, President and CEO of Standard comments: "The Oat Zone discovery is very critical for the development of the Mousseau East Project and we believe will contribute significantly to the expansion of the resource potential on the project. We are now confident that following this next program, Standard will have obtained sufficient geological information to conduct a resource estimate and move the project to its next stage of development.."

Boeing 787 Battery Problems spark a Revolution in Battery Technology
Posted on February 1, 2013 by Alessandro Bruno
The two fire incidents involving Boeing 787 aircraft, occurring within ten days of each other, have both been attributed to its batteries, creating a messy situation for Boeing, which has so far delivered only 50 units. Modern airplanes need many batteries, but play a central role in the 787 and no other airliner carries so many of them. They are used to actuate a number of cabin systems to fly-by-wire hardware, re placing the old and heavier hydraulic or mechanical technologies. Nevertheless, Boeing chose just one type of battery: lithium-ion. Li-ion batteries include positive and negative electrodes which are separated by a layer of plastic. Voltage is generated by ions migrating back and forth through an electrolyte, a non-aqueous liquid, between the electrodes. The negative electrodes are made of graphite while the positive electrode can use any one of a variety of materials. The problem lies with the positive electrode. The ones GS Yuasa supplies to Boeing use lithium cobalt dioxide. However, lithium cobalt dioxide is considered to be very dangerous as an electrode material; this makes them a fire hazard If the temperature exceeds a critical point, such as in the case of overcharging..

Graphene Macromolecules To Transform Plastics
Posted on February 2, 2013 by Graeme Irvine
Scientists in Germany led by the Freiburg Materials Research Center (FMF) at the University of Freiburg, have succeeded in combining graphene macromolecules with polymers, potentially transforming the global plastics industry forever. Adding to the Freiburg team are the University of Bayreuth, the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (BAM) in Berlin, and the Fraunhofer Institute for Mechanics of Materials in Freiburg. The project named “FUNgraphen,” has created new carbon macromolecules from graphene plus other carbon composite materials with unique properties. Best of all, their new process promises to be low cost and scalable at an industrial level..
