2001 = 22.Nov.
2002 = 28.Nov.
Wieso spät in 2002?

Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Dec. 17 (Bloomberg) -- Best Buy Co. cut its profit forecast because of disappointing holiday sales at its music stores, while Circuit City Stores Inc. had a third- quarter loss as it cut CD and DVD prices to boost sales.
Best Buy, the largest U.S. electronics retailer, said profit this quarter will be 5 cents lower than its previous estimate, sending its shares down as much as 8.2 percent. Smaller rival Circuit City fell as much as 9.8 percent.
Declining music sales at Best Buy's mall-based stores, including Sam Goody, will hurt profit this quarter, the company said. Both retailers are offering discounts on CDs and video games to keep customers from fleeing to discounters. Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is attracting shoppers with a wider selection of electronics including flat-screen televisions and personal computers.
``People are buying, but they are buying the bargains,'' said Brian Bruce of PanAgora Asset Management Investors, which manages about $13 billion in assets, including shares of retailers such as Wal-Mart.
Third-quarter net income rose to $85 million, or 26 cents a share, at Best Buy as sales increased 16 percent to $5.5 billion, the company said in statement. Circuit City had a net loss of $17.8 million, or 9 cents, compared with a profit of $27.7 million, or 10 cents, a year earlier. Sales gained 7 percent to $2.42 billion.
Shares of Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based Best Buy fell $1.57 to $23.83 at 1:07 p.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading after earlier declining to $23.31. They had dropped 49 percent this year. Circuit City shares fell 69 cents to $7.50. They had fallen 52 percent since last December.
Best Buy
Sales at Best Buy stores open at least 14 months fell 0.4 percent in the third quarter ended Nov. 30, led by an 11.5 percent decline at Sam Goody and other mall-based stores. Net income was $80 million, or 25 cents, in the year-earlier quarter.
The company reduced its fourth-quarter forecast $1 to $1.10 a share. Profit will be hurt by an $80 million to $85 million loss at its Musicland stores unit, which includes the Sam Goody music and Suncoast video chains, the company said.
``This Musicland deal has not been good for Best Buy,'' said James Luke, who helps manage more than $10 billion in assets at BB&T Asset Management and has sold Best Buy shares. ``I wish they had just stuck to their knitting.''
Best Buy acquired Musicland Stores Corp. in February 2001. Since the acquisition, Best Buy has struggled to expand Musicland's offerings beyond CDs, said David Yucius president of Aurora Investment Counsel, whose $110 million in assets include 40,000 Best Buy shares.
Best Buy said it is reassessing all of its Sam Goody mall locations, though declined to say if locations will be closed.
``We obviously are disappointed with these results,'' President and Chief Operating Officer Allen Lenzmeier said on a conference call with analysts and investors.
The retailer opened 68 Best Buy stores in the past year. It has more than 1,900 stores in the U.S. and Canada.
Net income was $350 million, or $1.08, in the year-earlier fourth quarter.
Circuit City
Sales of higher-profit items including satellite television systems and wireless telephones slowed in the quarter, Richmond, Virginia-based Circuit City said.
Sales at Circuit City stores open at least a year rose 6 percent from the year-earlier third quarter. The retailer also had costs to remodel and relocate stores, and said remodeling costs for the year will be less than the company's estimate of 18 cents a share.
Circuit City split off its CarMax auto business in October. Excluding results for the unit, Circuit City said it would have had a loss of $21.3 million, or 10 cents a share, compared with a profit of $9.2 million, or 4 cents. On that basis, Circuit City was expected to have a 13-cent loss, according to analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call. The earnings announcement was Circuit City's first since it separated CarMax.
Circuit City didn't provide a forecast for this quarter.
Unless consumer spending picks up, U.S. retailers' November- December sales may slow to an increase of 1.5 percent, the worst gain since at least 1970, Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi economist Mike Niemira said. Holiday sales rose 2.2 percent last year, the firm said.
Das sind aber nur Träume.
Gute Nacht!
