RESTON (IT-Times) - Der Internet-Infrastrukturspezialist VeriSign hat im vergangenen ersten Quartal 2014 seinen Umsatz und Gewinn weiter steigern können, nachdem das Unternehmen im ersten Vierteljahr 1,28 Mio. neue Domainnamen in der .com- und .net-Region registriert hat.
Für das vergangene Märzquartal meldet VeriSign einen Umsatzanstieg um fünf Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr auf 249 Mio. US-Dollar. Dabei konnte der Domain-Registrar einen Nettogewinn von 94 Mio. US-Dollar oder 64 US-Cent je Aktie realisieren, nach einem Profit von 85 Mio. Dollar oder 52 US-Cent je Aktie im Jahr vorher. Ausgenommen außergewöhnlicher Sonderbelastungen konnte VeriSign einen bereinigten Nettogewinn (Non-GAAP) von 95 Mio. Dollar oder 64 US-Cent je Aktie erwirtschaften und damit die Gewinnerwartungen der Analysten um einen Cent je Aktie übertreffen. Die operative Gewinnmarge schrumpfte leicht auf 56,1 Prozent, nach 56,4 Prozent im Vorjahresquartal.

Die Einheit VeriSign Registry Services konnte 1,28 Millionen neue Domainnamen im ersten Quartal 2014 registrieren und dadurch das Quartal mit 128,5 Millionen aktive Domainnamen in der .com- und .net-Zone beenden - ein Zuwachs von vier Prozent gegenüber dem Vorjahr. Insgesamt beendete VeriSign das Quartal mit Barreserven von 1,7 Mrd. Dollar, nachdem das Internet-Unternehmen einen positiven Cashflow von 142 Mio. Dollar erwirtschaften konnte.
Daneben kaufte VeriSign (Nasdaq: VRSN, WKN: 911090) im jüngsten Quartal noch 2,4 Millionen eigene Aktien im Wert von 132 Mio. Dollar zurück. Insgesamt stehen im aktuellen Rückkaufprogramm noch 868 Mio. Dollar für Aktienrückkäufe zur Verfügung. (ami)

RESTON, Va. (AP) _ VeriSign Inc. (VRSN) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter profit of $148.3 million.
On a per-share basis, the Reston, Virginia-based company said it had net income of $1.26. Earnings, adjusted for stock option expense, were $1.31 per share.
The internet infrastructure services provider posted revenue of $310.5 million in the period.
For the year, the company reported profit of $612.3 million, or $5.15 per share. Revenue was reported as $1.23 billion.
VeriSign shares have increased 13% since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has increased almost 4%. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $216.94, an increase of 25% in the last 12 months.

(MT Newswires) -- VeriSign (VRSN) meldete für das dritte Quartal einen Gewinn pro Aktie von 1,40 Dollar, gegenüber 1,49 Dollar vor einem Jahr.
Drei von Capital IQ befragte Analysten erwarteten einen GAAP-Gewinn von $1,37 pro Aktie.
Der Umsatz stieg auf $334,2 Millionen von $317,9 Millionen im Vorjahr. Zwei Analysten hatten mit einem Umsatz von 332 Mio. $ gerechnet.
