30.06.03 12:02
Hong Kong, June 29, 2003 - PCCW has scored a 'world first' by striking a data-carrying deal with China Telecom Corporation that opens up the whole of the Chinese mainland to business customers in Hong Kong.

The breakthrough means PCCW can offer companies a one-stop-shop package that will connect their Hong Kong operations with as many destination locations in as many PRC provinces as customers want.

Businesses will be able to deal with just one point of contact at PCCW for every single aspect of their data-carrying needs between Hong Kong and mainland China. For example, issues such as ordering, billing and fault-reporting can be handled on an end-to-end basis with a call to PCCW.

PCCW's Chief Operating Officer, Michael Butcher, said: "PCCW is the first IT&T player in the world to strike this kind of door-to-door, nationwide data service arrangement with China Telecom. At present, no other provider is able to offer this kind of hassle-free service to business customers needing data service into mainland China."

In the past, he explained, business customers in Hong Kong would order half their data-carrying solution from a local provider, and the other half from China Telecom just to cross the border. Customers then had to make local, in-country arrangements so that their data could travel to its final destination in the mainland.

Now, issues such as ordering, billing and fault-reporting can all be handled at one PCCW point of contact in Hong Kong.

Companies with cross-border data communications needs in sectors such as banking, hotels, retail, transport and financial services are believed to be the type likely to gain most from the one-stop-shop deal.

The agreement covers a range of data communications services, including IPLCs (international private leased circuits), ATM (asynchronous transfer mode), frame relay and IP virtual private network (IP-VPN).

Michael Butcher said: "One of the beauties of this offer to our Hong Kong business customers is that we, along with China Telecom, are able to deliver their data to multiple points across mainland China and not just one, which was the case before this agreement was signed."

He added: "In negotiating this ground-breaking agreement, we found that PCCW and China Telecom share the same kind of sharp focus on the exact needs of the customer, rather than the technology we use to serve them."

The move also demonstrates PCCW's growing services for mainland China, as well as its developing relationships with like-minded operators.

Ms Liang Zhiping, China Telecom's Managing Director, Business Customer Department, welcomed the agreement with PCCW.

She said: "Customer first, service foremost is a phrase that captures our philosophy on customer service. We make every effort to provide quality service, add value and explore innovative win-win solutions for our customers.

"In particular, China Telecom shares PCCW's view of putting the customer first, and hopes this agreement will promote quality one-stop-shop, end-to-end services for multinational business customers in mainland China."

Hong Kong, September 19, 2003 - PCCW (Beijing) Limited, an indirectly wholly
owned subsidiary of PCCW Limited, announced that it has signed a framework
agreement with China Mobile Communications Group Limited and China
International Telecom Construction Co. (CITCC) in Beijing to provide an
advanced Management Information System (MIS) for China Mobile.

The framework agreement follows a major project during which PCCW began to
build an MIS for some of China Mobile's provincial offices. The next stage
will see PCCW designing and implementing an advanced MIS solution focusing
on Financial Management at other offices across the country.

When a nationwide MIS is completed, it will enable China Mobile to further
enhance its management systems and business processes, allowing greater
efficiency and allocation of resource.

According to China Mobile's three-year 'informatization' plan, work on its
major application systems should be completed by the end of 2005. The
company will then continue to improve and consolidate other systems with the
aim of building a totally standardized and fully integrated information
application system.

Dr. Thomas Siu, Managing Director of Unihub, PCCW's IT Solutions Division,
said: "This solution currently represents the largest Enterprise Resource
Planning (ERP) project in mainland China, and is likely to help China Mobile
to greatly improve its internal operations and enhance overall
competitiveness."

PCCW has one of the largest teams of ERP professionals in mainland China,
plus extensive experience in implementing and managing mission critical
projects. PCCW is determined to provide a new driving force to the future
development of China Mobile.

PCCW has become a prominent IT industry player, helping many large
corporations to design, implement and operate crucial business operating
platforms. These include the Hong Kong SAR Government's Smart ID Card system
and the AMS/3 trading system for Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited.

PCCW will be responsible for the entire project's design and management.
PCCW will also select consultants to participate in the building of an
additional management system and assist China Mobile to develop and nurture
a group of professionals in applications management, financial management
and information technology.
