Got Any Friends With Some Spare Change?

NDM may seem like a long shot but the risk to reward ratio is odd the charts. Don't bet the farm. Just plug in some spare change, whatever you can afford and pick some up. Could be a 100 bagger. I don't see it going to zero

You guys are both right (for yourselves). But with all due respect, domcolumba, you should reconsider your criticism of jphoward and others of us investing (OK, gambling) in NDM.

You can make a fortune in penny mining stocks, especially in a bull market. But you shouldn't play them with money you can't afford to lose, and you have to take profits regularly on the way up. Most importantly - you have to know when to accept a loss and get out, something you apparently disregarded.

People who bought NDM high and held onto it all the way down obviously made a yuuuge mistake. But it's one that almost all investors make at one point or another. A smart investor is able to learn from his previous mistakes and analyze a stock as if he just heard about it for the first time (like I did).

If you do that dispassionately, I think you can only conclude that NDM is a fantastic - perhaps once in a lifetime - risk/reward proposition, but obviously only for a very small part of one's portfolio. It's certainly a much better gamble (and IMO a hell of lot more fun) than buying a lottery ticket.

Maybe highly speculative (penny) stocks are not a wise investment in your particular case, but you can't conclude that to be true for everybody else in the investing world.

Phil North, the E.P.A. Ecologist Who Ran Away - The New Yorker
Tim Sohn reports on the disappearance and reappearance of Phil North, an E.P.A. ecologist, and his role in thwarting Alaska’s Pebble Mine project.
As it turned out, North had good reason to stay away. While he was living out his retirement dreams abroad, something odd was happening back home. He was becoming perhaps the most infamous retired Alaskan bureaucrat anywhere—a rogue scientist on the lam, the subject of lawsuits, subpoenas, and congressional inquiries and hearings. At issue was North’s work on the Pebble Mine, an immense gold-and-copper prospect in southwest Alaska’s Bristol Bay region. For more than a decade, a fractious debate had pitted the Pebble Limited Partnership, the Canadian developer, against a coalition of indigenous tribes, commercial fishermen, and conservationists, who objected to locating an open-pit mine near the headwaters of one of the world’s largest salmon runs. At the time, North was an ecologist in the E.P.A.’s Aquatic Resources Program, working alone out of an office in the Kenai Peninsula town of Soldotna, where he dealt with enforcement, outreach, and education pertaining to the Clean Water Act. He was content, good at his job, and uninterested in politicking his way up the E.P.A. ladder. He prided himself on having a good reputation—“green but fair”—with the networks of regulators, consultants, and N.G.O.s that surround Alaska’s extraction industry, on both the business and conservation sides.

Pebble is the largest known undeveloped copper ore body in the world, measured by either the amount of contained metal or the amount of ore.[36]

Northern Dynasty estimated that Pebble contains over $300 billion worth of recoverable metals at early 2010 prices.[37]

The expected pretax cash flow was approximately $2 billion per year for much of the mine life and significantly more during the later years. The report states that 58% of the ore resource will remain at year 45.[38]

Da will ein "Grosser" recht schnell rein.
Warum?

...unglaubliche Armleuchter dort..lol
Aus SH...

This is the best once in a lifetime reward/risk bet in a lifetime. Early gold bull market+change in administrations due to upcoming elections make this a high expected value investment. Just do the subjective probabilities * expected values at the scenarios represented by the probabilities and sum. A gamble sure, but any investment in a junior gold miner is a gamble (very few turn out winners, need to depend on the occasional 5-10 bagger once in a while). This one qualifies as a potential 50-100 bagger, that's where the expected values take you. Certainly don't mind skeptics, that just means there is potential money still out there as future demand to eventually come around as investors. You are just hurting yourself though, not a good idea to wait until the stock price reaches $10/sh, think of all the regret you will experience by not catching 10X gains. Of course, expect volatility, there will be sudden and substantial pullbacks on the way to its destination; it's the nature of the beast.

....SH:

Since the beginning of July, we have seen NDM almost triple its s/p. We have seen significant volume. We are now hearing some gurus touting it. We all know that the deposit is stellar. Us stooges at the bottom of the food chain are always the last to know if something is up, but the s/p is talking to us. It seems to me that somebody or some sombodies are accumulating, which is driving the volume and the s/p up. They always want to load up quietly, but cannot keep it totally under wraps.  We just need to ensure that we (the small fish) are attached to the shark. Come fall, we might go into blast off mode.
