NeoMedia Bridges Mobile Marketing Gap between Marketers and Consumers with Registry of 'Keywords' to Enable e-Commerce on Cell Phones and PDA's
9/26/2005 8:30:06 AM

SAN FRANCISCO & FT. MYERS, Fla., Sep 26, 2005 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (NEOM), today introduced a major breakthrough in mobile marketing when it began registering "Keywords" for use with its PaperClick(R) Mobile Go-Window(TM) and its PaperClick Mobile Marketing Solution(TM) (www.PaperClick.com).

A pioneer and innovator in wireless services and patented technologies that provide automatic links to Internet-based information for more than a decade, NeoMedia will demonstrate Keywords as part of its patented PaperClick Mobile Marketing Solution at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2005 at Moscone Center in San Francisco, tomorrow through Thursday in booth 1003.

"NeoMedia is bringing mobile marketing directly to cell phones, PDA's and other popular wireless devices, enabling product managers and marketing-driven businesses to interact with and conduct e-commerce with customers around the clock and around the world," said Charles T. Jensen, the company's president and CEO.

Mobile Keywords, such as brand names and slogans, can be registered and licensed via the PaperClick Keyword Registry(TM) for entry in a PaperClick Mobile Go-Window, a Google(R)-like text window on cell phones or PDA's, to create a one-click connection to a Web page (URL). Words, phrases and brand names already trademarked can be registered only by their owners, with other words and phrases available from NeoMedia.

Keywords and Mobile Go-Window a 'Breakthrough'

"The introduction and immediate availability of Keywords and the PaperClick Mobile Go-Window represents a genuine breakthrough in marketing by cell phone," said Martin Copus, head of NeoMedia's Wireless Business Unit and the company's COO.

"NeoMedia has exponentially expanded the 'brand-in-the-hand' offerings available to marketers," said Mr. Copus. "Now, PaperClick delivers a unique and valuable service for marketers and advertisers by taking consumers directly to promotional offers and ads on the mobile Internet just by entering a product or brand name, code or barcode identifier on their handset, and clicking 'Go'.

"And," he said, "because all information resides on the Internet, offers or ads can be changed in real time without changing the input.

No 'Cyber-Squatting' for Keywords

"NeoMedia will only license Keywords of trademarks to their legitimate owners, eliminating the cyber-squatting and time-consuming and costly litigation that marked the early days of domain registrations," Mr. Copus said, noting that Keywords cannot be resold., and can include phrases, numbers, spaces, etc.

"The most common rejection in requesting a Keyword is that it is legally trademarked by someone else," he said. "NeoMedia recommends that interested parties request their own trademarks, product names, company name, common words used in their industry, or words related to their company, school, organization, and so on.

Pricing of Keywords is determined by NeoMedia, "with shorter and more widely known Keywords generally considered to be more valuable to marketer and consumer and thus having a higher price," he said.

Enabling the Spread of Mobile Marketing

Around the world - starting in the Far East, now in Western Europe, and moving closer to North America each day, mobile marketing is continuing its dramatic growth. Today, according to industry figures, there are virtually as many mobile phones in use (1.5 billion) as TV's (1.1B) and computers (457 million) combined!

"Mobile technology and mobile marketing continue to spread at a very rapid pace," said Mr. Copus. "And now, with PaperClick, a branded icon launching a branded Go-Window can be on the menu of any Internet-enabled handset.

"PaperClick leaves SMS messaging in its wake," he said. "Brand managers are learning that SMS travels through several nodes before reaching its audiences - like a slow train making all the stops along the way. PaperClick, via Keywords entered in the Go-Window, delivers consumers straight to a specific, interactive Web page directly relevant to its target audience, and with color, sound, pictures, movement, not just plain old text."

Registering and Activating Keywords

To check the availability of a word or phrase for registration, brand managers and others should go to www.PaperClick.com/registry and click "Search Keywords," entering a word or phrase to determine if it's available. First time users should register, and thereafter log-in.

If a requested word is available, NeoMedia will process the application, thoroughly researching requested Keywords to see if they have been otherwise trademarked, and provide a market price for registration and activation. Once a signed user agreement and payment are received, Keyword are activated and ready for use.

Information is available from NeoMedia at (630) 435-9200, Ext. 118, or online at www.PaperClick.com.

NeoMedia and Arnold Worldwide Form Mobile Marketing Alliance to Bring Patented PaperClick Services to Brand Marketers and Ad Campaigns
Wednesday October 12, 10:26 am ET

WASHINGTON & FT. MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 2005--NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: NEOM - News), said today that it has entered into a mobile marketing alliance and co-marketing agreement with Arnold Worldwide, one of the largest and best-known advertising agencies, centered on NeoMedia's patented PaperClick® technology platform.

The agreement calls for Arnold and NeoMedia to work together to develop opportunities and marketing campaigns utilizing PaperClick, NeoMedia's suite of mobile marketing applications that connect consumers direct to the mobile Internet by clicking on a SmartCode or barcode using a camera phone, or by typing a mobile Keyword into a PaperClick Go-Window(TM). Pioneered and developed by NeoMedia, PaperClick Mobile Marketing Services(TM) provide the tools and support marketers need to establish and maintain one-on-one business-to-consumer contact through cell phones and Web-enabled mobile wireless devices, such as SmartPhones and other PDA's.

NeoMedia will provide technical and sales support for presentations, marketing programs and campaigns conceived and developed by Arnold for its clients.

Arnold Worldwide (www.arn.com) is one of the most highly awarded agencies in the world, with a client roster that includes such well-recognized brands as RadioShack®, Royal Caribbean® and Jack Daniel's® as well as Hershey's®, Amtrak® and McDonald's®. 'Just a Keyword or Click Away from the Mobile Internet'

" Arnold Worldwide has earned an enviable reputation as a creative force in the advertising industry," said Martin Copus, head of NeoMedia's Wireless Business Unit and the company's COO.

" NeoMedia is delighted to be bringing our PaperClick suite of mobile marketing applications to Arnold's clients, and helping maintain its reputation for innovation and creativity," he said. " Mobile is rapidly becoming the 'third screen' for brand marketing," Mr. Copus said, " and in partnership with Arnold, our PaperClick mobile technology platform will take on a new creative slant."

Ken Umansky, managing partner and executive director of Arnold's Washington, DC office, said that his company " is very excited about PaperClick and the rapid development of mobile marketing as a new medium for marketers and brands to reach consumers.

Canada Grants Key Mobile Marketing Application Patent to NeoMedia

FT. MYERS, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 4, 2005--NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTC BB: NEOM), an innovator in wireless services and patented PaperClick(R) technologies that provide automatic links to Internet-based information, said today that it has received an approval of a patent for an application vital to delivering information for mobile marketing and other applications from the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) in Quebec.

Charles W. Fritz, NeoMedia's founder and chairman, said the patent corresponds to NeoMedia's U.S. Patent No. 6,434,561 issued in August 2002, and is for a "Method and System for Accessing Electronic Resources via Machine-Readable Data on Intelligent Documents."

The patent, said Mr. Fritz, deals with improved methods of converting information placed directly on a physical object into PC-readable data utilizing two-dimensional bar codes and various data compression techniques, along with software and desktop image scanners. Each 2 to 3-inch bar code can hold 2 to 3KB (equivalent to two or three printed pages), depending on the data compression technique used.

An example of how NeoMedia's patented technology can be used is in reading a two-dimensional bar code on an ad, promotional brochure, or any other physical object. Then, using software and an image scanner -- and with or without linking to the Internet -- the user could easily and accurately import the linked information into an applications, such as Quicken(R), Microsoft(R) Money, etc., or just directly onto their cell phone, PDA or personal computer.

Dr. Kevin Hunter, NeoMedia's chief scientist, and Robert T. Durst, Jr., a consultant to NeoMedia, developed the technology for which this patent was issued.

'Point-of-Purchase in Consumer's Hand'

"Today," said Mr. Fritz, "the point-of-purchase is right in the consumer's hand. We believe the ability to read and process indexes and codes, to obtain desired information, comparison shop, etc., as performed by NeoMedia's patented PaperClick technology platform, is a vital and central component to the growth of mobile marketing around the world."

The issuance of this patent by the CIPO, said Mr. Fritz, "adds to NeoMedia's already-strong global patent position, with those patents all holding well in court."

U.S. Patent No. 6,993,573

New NeoMedia Patent Covers Mobile Marketing-Enabling Technology for the Capture and Processing of Bar Codes with Camera Cell Phones

2006-02-02 10:21 ET - News Release

FT. MYERS, Fla. -- (Business Wire) -- Feb. 2, 2006
Company Website: http://www.neom.com

NeoMedia Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: NEOM), an innovator
in wireless services and patented technologies that provide mobile
marketing-enabling automatic links to Internet-based information, said
today that it has been awarded a patent covering the capture and
processing of bar codes explicitly from camera cell phones.
U.S. Patent No. 6,993,573 was issued to the company on January
31st, listing Kevin Hunter, NeoMedia's chief scientist, as the
inventor.
The patent explicitly describes and patents NeoMedia's method of
capturing the image of a bar code by the camera device on a
Web-enabled cell phone, and processing the bar code so as to deliver
the appropriate URL - or Web-based information - to the user's cell
phone screen.

'A Mobile Marketing Necessity'

" This is NeoMedia's 27th patent and in many ways the most
important patent since our first was issued in the late 1990s covering
similar technology for codes scanned (or their numeric equivalents
entered) into a PC," said Charles W. Fritz, the company's founder and
chairman.
Mr. Fritz said that NeoMedia also has patents covering search,
location-based ads, and " other enabling technology for a wide range of
mobile marketing activities and applications.
" Our patented technology is a mobile marketing necessity," Mr.
Fritz said.
" Today, mobile devices are omnipresent and the desire for
information on-the-go is a worldwide phenomenon," he said.
" Marketing-driven companies recognize the Mobile Internet as the 'in'
way to reach hundreds of millions of cell phone-carrying consumers in
the U.S. alone, and our technologies create a patented bridge they
need to cross to showcase and receive orders for their products and
services."

The PaperClick IP Portfolio Grows

The new patent is the latest in the growing PaperClick(R) IP
portfolio (www.PaperClick.com), an array of mobile marketing-enabling
technologies and applications developed or offered by NeoMedia.
" According to the Cellular Telecommunications & Internet
Association (CTIA) and Mobile Marketing Association (MMA), there are
1.9 billion-plus phones in use worldwide - more than TVs and PCs
combined," said Mr. Fritz, noting that these global industry groups
project that by the end of 2008, more than 600 million phone users
will have Internet access.
" This mobile information boom drove worldwide revenue to more than
$3 billion in '04 according to CTIA and MMA, who project the total
will be at least $9 billion for 2006," Mr. Fritz said.
" Now, with this latest patent explicitly covering use of our
technology with camera cell phones, NeoMedia is well positioned to
help facilitate this global boom in mobile marketing," he said.

MicroPaintRepair-Technologie!
