Rod Cousens, erst kürzlich zum Chief Executive Officer bei
Acclaim ernannt, will im nächsten Jahr zur Profitabilität
zurückkehren. Ein Grund für die gemeldeten Verluste von
rund 67 Millionen US-Dollar sei Turok Evolution
gewesen. "Es war gut und gerne drei Jahre mit
signifikanten Kosten in Entwicklung, es wurde mit einer
massiven Marketingkampagne unterstützt, große Stückzahlen
wurden ausgeliefert und es hat sich dann einfach nicht
gemäß den Erwartungen verkauft", erläuterte Cousens
gegenüber MCV England. "Dies trug zu einer
Unternehmensleistung in den USA bei, die einfach nicht
ausreichend war." Inzwischen hat Acclaim massive
Kosteneinsparungen durchgeführt: Die ehemals sechs
Entwicklungsstudios wurden in drei umgeformt, 200
Mitarbeiter entlassen und somit jährliche
Administrationskosten von 155 Millionen US-Dollar auf 100
Millionen reduziert. Cousens setzt nun auf das neue,
verbesserte Produktangebot: "Selbst in schwierigen Zeiten
haben wir ein Produkt-Lineup aufgebaut, dass Acclaim
nächstes Jahr als erfolgreichen weltweit agierenden
Publisher mit Kredibilität bestätigen wird."
23.06.03 - Rod Cousens, neuer CEO von Acclaim, will in
Zukunft kritischer mit Software-Veröffentlichungen
umgehen. `Warum sollen wir Spiele für Formate entwickeln,
die keine entsprechenden Erträge liefern?`, erklärt
Cousens in einem Interview mit MCV UK.
`Wir unterstützen immer noch PS2 und Xbox, aber Nintendo?
Nein, nicht in der absehbaren Zukunft.`
Unverändert für den Gamecube sollen noch die aktuellen
Projekte Legends of Wrestling III (Frühjahr 2004), Urban
Freestyle Soccer (November 2003) und XGRA (22. August
2003) erscheinen
Auslistung von der Nasdaq !
Der Kurs hat in den letzten Wochen bereits kräftig
angezogen und war auch kurz über der $1 Marke.
Ich schätz, da hat jemand reges Interesse daran,
den Kurs der Aktie hochzutreiben. Bingo !
Fundamentals: Acclaim hat gerade den Topseller
BURNOUT 2 in den Verkaufscharts (in den Top 10
der XBOX- und GAMECUBE-Charts) und einige sehr
interessante Games in der Pipeline.
Ich bin bereits mit einer 1. Position zu 0,86 dabei,
werde jedoch noch 2 weitere Positionen aufbauen ...
Aktuell konsolidiert die Aktie bei ca. $0,80.

Acclaim droht Auslistung von der Nasdaq
Der Druck auf den Verlag ist enorm. Im Geschäftsjahr 2002 hatte Acclaim einen Verlust von rund 68 Mio. $ angehäuft, im Jahr davor erwirtschaftete das Unternehmen noch einen Gewinn von 12, 4 Mio. $. Für das letzte Quartal im Geschäftsjahr 2002 wurde ein Nettoverlust von 45 Mio. $ vermeldet; der Umsatz betrug 28 Mio. $. Im Vorjahreszeitraum betrug der Umsatz 66,8 Mio. $ bei einen Nettogewinn von 4,4 Mio. $.
Der Aktienkurs ist seit März auf Talfahrt und liegt mittlerweile deutlich unter einem Dollar. Bis zum 23. Juli hat die US-Börsenaufsicht SEC Acclaim Zeit gegeben, den Wert des Papiers auf über einen Dollar zu heben, ansonsten drohe die Auslistung am Nasdaq Small Cap.
Hoffen auf neue Spiele
Mit Hochdruck kämpft der US-Verlag um mehr Vertrauen bei den Anlegern. Seit Mitte vergangenen Jahres rotiert das Personalkarussell in der obersten Management-Ebene mit immer höherer Geschwindigkeit.
Auch bei der Spieleentwicklung versucht Acclaim, leitende Positionen mit Mitarbeitern erfolgreicher Konkurrenten zu besetzen. So soll künftig der ehmalige Electronic-Arts-Manager Randy Dersham die Acclaim Studios in Austin leiten. Dersham soll die Qualität der Spiele verbessern.
Auf der gerade beendeten größten Messe für Unterhaltungssoftware, E3, zeigte der Verlag seine Toptitel für das neue Jahr. Hoffnungsträger ist vor allem die Umsetzung der US-Fernsehserie "Alias", die in Deutschland von Vox ausgestrahlt wird. Ebenfalls einem Film folgt das Spiel "Gladiator", angelehnt an den gleichnamigen Kinoerfolg.

UPDATE - Acclaim says part of SEC video game probe

LOS ANGELES, July 18 (Reuters) - Video game publisher Acclaim Entertainment Inc. (NasdaqSC:AKLM - News) on Friday said it was part of a probe by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (News - Websites) into some video game companies.
Acclaim in a form filed with the SEC said it is cooperating fully with the investigation and providing all requested information.
Acclaim, which was notified of the probe on July 11, did not say what other game companies are part of the nonpublic inquiry or what the scope of the investigation is.
A spokesman for the SEC declined to comment on what other game companies were included in the probe.
Representativs from leading game companies Electronic Arts Inc. (NasdaqNM:ERTS - News), Activision Inc. (NasdaqNM:ATVI - News) and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. (NasdaqNM:TTWO - News) were not immediately available for comment. A spokeswoman for THQ Inc. (NasdaqNM:THQI - News) declined comment.

Activision, Acclaim Say SEC Looking at Videogame Makers

WASHINGTON -- Activision Inc. (NasdaqNM:ATVI - News) and Acclaim Entertainment Inc. (NasdaqSC:AKLM - News) said in separate filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission (News - Websites) that they have been included in a probe by the agency.

The formal, nonpublic inquiry involving videogame makers and distributors " appears to be focused on certain accounting practices common to the interactive- entertainment industry, with specific emphasis on revenue recognition," said Activision.
The company added the SEC said other firms have received similar information requests from the agency and that the requests "should not be construed as an indication from the SEC or its staff that any violation of the law has occurred."
Acclaim said in its filing it was notified by the SEC on July 11 that it was included in the probe.
Both companies said they intend to cooperate fully with the SEC.

GLEN COVE, N.Y., July 28 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Acclaim Entertainment, Inc. (Nasdaq: AKLM - News) today announced that it has received notice from The Nasdaq Stock Market, Inc. ("Nasdaq") indicating that, in accordance with Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(8)(D), the Company has been granted a 180 day extension, or until January 20, 2004, within which to regain compliance with the minimum $1.00 bid price per share requirement of The Nasdaq SmallCap Market.
In the notice, the Nasdaq staff noted that the Company meets the initial listing requirements for The Nasdaq SmallCap Market under Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(2)(A) and is therefore being provided the 180 day extension in accordance with Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(8)(D). If at any time before January 20, 2004, the bid price of the Company's common stock closes at $1.00 per share or more for a minimum of 10 consecutive trading days, the Nasdaq staff will provide notification that the Company complies with Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(8)(D).
The Nasdaq staff also noted that if compliance with Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(8)(D) cannot be demonstrated by January 20, 2004, Nasdaq will determine whether the Company meets the initial listing criteria under Marketplace Rule 4310(c)(2)(A). If the Company meets the initial listing criteria, Nasdaq will notify the Company that it has an additional 90 days in which to demonstrate compliance. Otherwise, Nasdaq will provide written notification that the Company's securities will be delisted. At that time, the Company has the right to appeal such determination to a Nasdaq Listing Qualification Panel.
There can be no assurance that the Company will regain compliance with the minimum bid price requirement by January 20, 2004 or that an appeal to the Nasdaq Listing Qualification Panel would be successful.
