http://www.biophan.com/...ion=com_content&task=view&id=475&Itemid=212
hier mal etwas, was mich als Nicht-Mediziner daraus interessieren würde
Zitat aus dem Brief: "... In addition, the company is working on developing some of its other early stage technologies, such as pulsewidth modulation for tissue stimulation, which can be used to excite nerve tissues in a manner that is far more energy efficient than any existing stimulation device. This technology may have the capability to take the efficiency of pacemakers, ICDs, and neurostimulators to a new level, and we are seeking grant funding to support further development..."
pulsewidth modulation sagt mir nichts.

Biophan Announces Memorandum of Understanding Between Myotech and PPA Technologies
PITTSFORD, NY--(Marketwire - April 8, 2008) - Biophan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BIPH), a developer of next-generation biomedical technology, today announced that Myotech, the company's majority-owned subsidiary, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with PPA Technologies to explore the potential for a strategic relationship regarding the development and commercialization of their respective technologies.
PPA Technologies AG Jena, a German company, is developing a technical solution for active support in cases of cardiac insufficiency and complete temporary support during cardiac arrest. This technology could be complementary to the Myotech Circulatory Support System (CSS), which is intended to improve the treatment of acute heart failure.
John Lanzafame, Biophan's CEO, said, "We have entered into this agreement to explore the potential for collaboration between the two companies, to strengthen our product offerings and infrastructure. Both companies are approaching a similar segment of the heart failure market, and the possible synergies between the companies and our respective technologies hold the potential to put us in a much stronger competitive position. Myotech has approached this market need from a surgical viewpoint, while PPA has approached the market need from the perspective of the interventional cardiologist, so there may be a combination that could provide us a broader offering of products. Initial meetings and discussions have been positive, and with this memorandum of understanding, we can explore and formalize the best alternative for a closer working relationship."
The Myotech Circulatory Support System (CSS) consists of an external drive unit and flexible polymer cup that slips over the heart and is designed to provide the energy that enables the heart to restore normal blood flow. It is designed to be deployed quickly for use in resuscitation and insufficient cardiac output indications. Since it will have no contact with circulating blood, the Myotech CSS is expected to reduce the risk of patient complications, such as clotting and stroke, bleeding, and infection.

In the area of cardiovascular support, there are several manufacturers of circulatory support systems, including Abiomed, Thoratec, World Heart, and others. In the area of acute heart failure, where restoration of cardiac output is needed for an arrested heart, there are no circulatory systems known to the Company that can provide full systolic and diastolic support to an arrested heart, without blood contact, as quickly as the Myotech circulatory support system. PPA Technologies AG, in Germany, is developing a device that provides non-blood contacting support, their patents a r e n o t widely filed outside of Germany and d o n o t cover many of the features and full range of capabilities of the Myotech CSS.
Biophan Expands Intellectual Property Portfolio With Two New Patents
Biophan Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: BIPH), a developer of next-generation biomedical technology, today announced the expansion of its intellectual property portfolio for development in new technical markets, with the availability of two US patents.
Biothermal Power Source for Implantable Devices
This patent, US 7,340,304, is the third issued patent licensed to Biophan from Biomed Solutions LLC, and covers the generation of electrical power from body heat for implantable devices. This patent deals with specialized device shape and construction that enables the biothermal power source to take advantage of higher temperatures found deeper in the body, thus providing higher output of electrical power. Biophan has continued its work with personnel at the NASA Ames Research Center to improve the conversion efficiency of the semiconductor materials used to convert thermal to electrical energy. This patent represents an additional system-level approach to getting further power improvements.
Optical MRI Catheter System
US/2005-0197563, a patent application assigned directly to Biophan, has been allowed by the USPTO, and will soon issue as a US patent. This application discloses details of the construction and operation of a specialized catheter having a highly miniaturized MRI coil that can be guided into coronary arteries. "Vulnerable plaque" is the term used to describe those regions in the arterial wall most likely to shed a blood clot, widely regarded to cause 75% of heart attacks and a large percentage of strokes. Biophan intends to use one or more optical fibers in place of electrical conductors within the catheter. These fibers have extremely high signal carrying capacity, and would help eliminate risks due to catheter heating during an MRI procedure.
"These patents provide the potential to broaden the reach and the scope of our technology beyond its current focus," said John Lanzafame, Chief Executive Officer of Biophan. "We will continue to pursue grant funding opportunities for development of these and other technologies for which the company has patent protection, while moving forward with the continued development of the Myotech Cardiac Support System (CSS)."
