Ivanplats, the latest venture from mining entrepreneur Robert Friedland, owns the high-grade Kamoa copper deposit in the Democratic Republic of Congo, along with the massive Platreef platinum, gold and copper project in South Africa.
TORONTO — Shares of Ivanplats Ltd , an Africa-focused miner, rose 6.3% on the Toronto Stock Exchange on Wednesday after an initial public offering pegged the value of the company at more than $2.5-billion.
Ivanplats, a venture backed by Robert Friedland – one of the best-known project promoters in the mining industry – announced its long-awaited plan to list in Toronto last month.
Chicago-born Friedland is known across the mining industry for his showmanship and flamboyance, almost as much as for his talent in spotting the potential of some of the world’s biggest deposits, among them the Voisey’s Bay nickel deposit in Eastern Canada and the Oyu Tolgoi copper and gold deposit in Mongolia.
Ivanplats, his latest venture, owns the high-grade Kamoa copper deposit in the Democratic Republic of Congo, along with the massive Platreef platinum, gold and copper project in South Africa. It also owns the Kipushi zinc and copper asset in Congo, as well as other assets spread across Congo, South Africa, Gabon and Australia..

VANCOUVER — Canadian mining magnate Robert Friedland looks poised to take the market by storm yet again, with an aggressive portfolio of advanced stage base and precious metal properties in Africa underpinning an initial public offering (IPO) for his upcoming Toronto Stock Exchange listing, Ivanplats.
On Oct. 16 Ivanplats filed its final long form prospectus, which outlined an IPO totalling 63.3 million shares at a price of $4.75 per share for gross proceeds of US$305 million. The company is expected to start officially trading on Oct. 23 under the symbol IVP.
The final issuance clocked in on the lower end of an offering range between $4.50 and $5.40 per share, and featured established underwriters, including: Bank of Montreal, Morgan Stanley, Macquarie Capital, and the Royal Bank of Canada. An overallotment option could see an additional 15% or roughly 9 million shares issued, raising proceeds to around US$350 million.
Friedland's financing marks the largest industry offering on Canadian markets since Tahoe Resources raised US$350 million in 2010 for its Escobal silver project in Guatemala. If pre-IPO bond issuances are included Ivanplat’s total cash raise jumps to nearly US$500 million..

Ivanplats Announces Third-Quarter Results
Company completes successful IPO and has its shares listed on TSX
Three new step-out drill holes support potential extension of Flatreef
platinum-palladium-gold-nickel-copper discovery in South Africa
VANCOUVER, CANADA -- Ivanplats Limited (TSX: IVP) today announced its financial results for the quarter ended September 30, 2012. All figures are in US dollars unless otherwise stated.
HIGHLIGHTS
- On October 23, 2012, Ivanplats successfully closed its initial public offering (IPO). A total of 63.3 million new Ivanplats Class A common shares (Common Shares) were issued at a price of C$4.75 ($4.85) per share, resulting in approximately C$300 million ($307 million) raised in gross proceeds for the company, excluding the over-allotment option.
- With the completion of the IPO, the Common Shares began trading on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol IVP.
- Ivanplats granted the underwriters an over-allotment option, exercisable in whole or in part for a period of 30 days following the IPO, to purchase up to an additional approximately 9.5 million Common Shares (representing 15% of the aggregate number of Common Shares issued at the IPO) at a price of C$4.75 per share. If the over-allotment option is exercised in full, the total gross proceeds to the company under the IPO will increase to C$346 million ($354 million).
- The overall aggregate equity issued in connection with the IPO was approximately C$493 million ($504 million), which includes C$193 million ($197 million) from pre-IPO bonds issued in 2011 and 2012 that have been converted to 40.7 million Common Shares.
- In August 2012, the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo granted the mining licences for the Kamoa Copper Project. The mining licences are valid for 30 years and then can be renewed for 15 years at a time, until the end of the mine's life. This represents a major advance in Ivanplats' plans to bring the Kamoa Copper Project into production.
- Preliminary visual results from step-out drilling at Ivanplats' Platreef Project in South Africa suggest a potential extension of the company's Flatreef platinum-palladium-gold-nickel-copper discovery. The new drill holes have encountered visually significant, Flatreef-style mineralization up to 2.5 kilometres southwest of the boundary of the project's current inferred Flatreef resource..

Ivanplats' drilling significantly extends the size of the Flatreef platinum-palladium-gold-rhodium-nickel-copper discovery on the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex in South Africa
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA – Ivanplats Executive Chairman Robert Friedland and Executive Vice President, Exploration, David Broughton announced today that core assays from step-out drilling at the Platreef Project on the Northern Limb of the Bushveld Complex in South Africa have confirmed a significant expansion of the company's Flatreef platinum-palladium-gold-rhodium-nickel-copper deposit. Gestern in can fast 4 mio Umsatz.
