Bombardier Loses Next CSeries Prospect As Austrian Picks Embraer
By Richard Weiss, Bloomberg News | Mar. 12, 2015
Bombardier Inc. lost the second prospect within a week for its CSeries aircraft after Deutsche Lufthansa opted instead for Embraer jets to renew the short-haul fleet of its Austrian subsidiary.
Austrian will get 17 Embraer 195 models to replace Fokker aircraft, rejuvenating a group of aircraft that was 21 years old on average with models that are just four years old, Lufthansa Chief Executive Officer Carsten Spohr said today after announcing earnings. The move means that Austrian no longer needs the CSeries, Lufthansa said.
Lufthansa's decision to favor Embraer over Bombardier's most recent airliner is another blow for the Canadian manufacturer, after Qatar Airways Ltd. CEO Akbar Al Baker said last week that he's no longer considering the airliner after years of back and forth and Airbus Group providing an alternative with its A319neo. Bombardier plans to begin deliveries of the CSeries by the end of this year, two years later than planned.
Lufthansa ordered the CSeries for its Swiss unit in 2009, buying 30 with options for 30 more, making it the first customer for the plane. Swiss has said it expects certification for the aircraft later this year.
Geduld ist angesagt. Das Risiko nach unten ist somit charttechnisch begrenzt, es sei denn die c-Serie floppt.

Bombardier Inc. has put the worst behind it and new orders for the CSeries are about to start rolling in, so the deep negative sentiment reflected in the stock price is no longer warranted, according to a new analysis by RBC.
Analyst Walter Spracklin on Wednesday upgraded Bombardier to outperform from sector perform and raised his target price to $3.50, approximately 40% above where the stock is currently trading.

LONDON, April 10 (Reuters) - Bombardier is exploring options to monetize its transportation unit potentially worth up to $5 billion, as the Canadian group seeks to offset challenges within its aircraft business, six sources familiar with the matter said.
The world's largest manufacturer of both planes and trains is working with banks on strategic options for its transportation arm, which provides rail vehicles, signalling and control equipment, the sources said on Friday.
Options would include possible a sale, full or partial of the business, as well as an initial public offering (IPO) to retain Bombardier's exposure to the healthier half of its business, three sources said, declining to be named since the matter is private. Last year, General Electric acquired the power and grid business of Alstom, and Alstom generated $14 billion from the deal. Alstom is interested in acquiring Bombardiers transportation business. As both companies have financial reserves, Bombardier is willing to have talks with them.
