Das ABC News/Money Magazine berichtet, dass das Verbrauchervertrauen sich in der letzten Woche zur Vorwoche leicht verändert habe, der Index lag leicht tiefer bei -13, nach -12 in der Vorwoche. Der Index oszilliert zwischen Plus und Minus 100 Punkten.
Nach ABC bewerten 59 Prozent der Amerikaner ihre finanzielle Situation als exzellent oder gut, das Rekordhoch lag bei 70 Prozent im Januar 2000.
48% der Teilnehmer sehen die Wirtschaft in einer guten Verfassung, ein Rückgang um einen Prozentpunkt. Seit Herbst 2001 ist dieser Indikator um 14 Prozentpunkte gefallen.

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2002--Hewlett-Packard Company (NYSE:HWP) announced that today's conference call for its first quarter earnings will be held at 4:30 p.m. EST/1:30 p.m. PST.
HP will release its first quarter earnings after market close today. A live audio Webcast of the conference call will be hosted by Carly Fiorina, HP chairman and chief executive officer, and Bob Wayman, HP executive vice president and chief financial officer.

A replay of the audio Webcast will be available at the same Web site shortly after the call and will remain available for approximately one week.

Brocade reported its first-quarter financial results in line with analysts after the market closed Wednesday. The company (BRCD) posted earnings of $11.7 million, or 5 cents a share, on revenue of $123.1 million compared with the year-ago profit of $32.5 million, or 13 cents a share, on revenue of $165 million. The latest quarter was in line with the fourth quarter of 2001. The 23 analysts polled by Thomson Financial/First Call expect the networking storage company to earn 5 cents a share, on revenue of about $118.8 million for its first quarter.
Hewlett-Packard (HWP) beat earnings targets and increased net income from the previous year, with help from stronger consumer sales. The computer-and printer-maker's net earnings rose to $484 million, or 25 cents a share, vs. $141 million, or 7 cents in the same period last year. H-P reported an investment loss of $365 million in the year-ago quarter, and had a negative tax effect of $272 milllion. The company's pro forma earnings, which excluded $86 million in restructuring costs, was $564 million, or 29 cents a share, down from $812 million or 41 cents in the year-ago period. The company reported first quarter revenue of $11.4 billion, down 8 percent from $12.4 billion in last year's first quarter. Analysts had expected H-P to earn 25 cents a share, on sales of $11.2 billion, according to a survey conducted by Thomson Financial/First Call. Shares of H-P rose 21 cents to close at $20.98.
