GS CleanTech - The Newest Trend in Ethanol Production
Tuesday March 13, 11:00 am ET

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--GS CleanTech Corporation (OTC Bulletin Board: GSCT - News) is featured in the 2007 First Quarter issue of Distillers Grains Quarterly under an article titled "Corn Oil Extraction Opens New Markets". A copy of the complete article "Corn Oil Extraction Opens New Markets" can be found at http://www.gs-cleantech.com/pdf/DGQ_Q1_2007.pdf.
ANZEIGE

The article includes references to a study conducted by Natural Resources Canada by chemical engineering professor Brad Saville to evaluate different methods of corn oil extraction to determine the best point within the process to extract the oil. Saville reports, "We found that for most existing plants, the easiest thing would be to do the back end of the plant using a centrifuge. Capital costs are much less than what would be required to get refined oils from a front-end extraction process."

Furthermore, Steve Roe of Little Sioux Corn Processors LLP added that his plant's corn oil extraction experience concurs with Saville's findings. The 52 mmgy ethanol plant has installed GS CleanTech's technology and extracts 16 tons of oil per day. Roe says his company considered fractionation, but the costs deterred them. "You can install the unit we put in for roughly $2 million, "Roe says. "Corn Fractionation would be much more - maybe $15 to $20 million."

David Winsness, CEO of GS CleanTech added: "We appreciate the efforts of Distillers Grains Quarterly to further investigate this relatively new corn oil extraction market. We've been developing our oil extraction methods for several years and we have successfully developed several cost effective techniques to obtain optimum recoveries at relatively low cost. While our methods are the most cost effective, we have structured our program to ensure that participating ethanol producers retain the majority of the value of the extracted oil while incurring minimal technology and financing risk. With this, we have been effective in securing multiple contracts and anticipate that this trend will continue."

"GS CleanTech's corn oil extraction technology adds another benefit," Winsness continued. "Our corn oil extraction technique substantially improves DDG drying efficiency. The energy savings realized by the host facility's drying systems more than offsets the cost of the energy needed to extract the corn oil."

GS CleanTech's Corn Oil Extraction System(TM)

Currently, the majority of the ethanol produced domestically is based on a dry milling technique that converts corn into ethanol. The corn is milled and then mashed with a combination of heat and enzymes that convert the starch in the corn into fermentable sugars. This mash is then cooled and mixed with yeast to create a fermented mash which is then separated into alcohol and stillage. The alcohol is distilled and dehydrated into 200 proof fuel-grade ethanol. The stillage is sent through series of centrifuges and evaporators and then to a rotary dryer to reduce moisture. The output of the drying stage is a co-product called distillers dried grains ("DDG") which is conventionally sold as a livestock feed.

GS CleanTech's patent-pending corn oil extraction technologies intercept the stillage flow after the distillation step in the ethanol process and prior to the final DDG drying step to extract corn oil. The crude corn oil is then routed to storage for use as a raw material for biodiesel production and the now defatted stillage is returned to the drying stage of the ethanol production process where it is dried into defatted DDG. GS CleanTech's corn oil extraction technology provides ethanol producers with the following benefits:

Increased Revenue - The corn oil extracted is readily amenable to refining into biodiesel fuel which creates a new revenue stream for participating ethanol facilities;
Reduced Operating Costs and Emissions - Corn oil removal will substantially improve DDG drying efficiency. The resultant energy savings experienced by the drier more than compensates for the energy required to extract the corn oil;
High Recovery Rates - The technology is capable of recovering up to 75% of the corn oil within the DDG; and,
Increased Inclusion Rates - Corn oil removal can improve defatted DDG marketability and inclusion rates by reducing fat content.
GS CleanTech's pricing model for its corn oil extraction technology is based on GS CleanTech's provision of turn-key extraction systems for no up-front cost in return for long-term agreements to purchase the extracted corn oil based on a fixed discount to prevailing fuel prices. Alternatively, GS CleanTech's clients have the option of purchasing their installation of the corn oil extraction technology provided that GS CleanTech retains the right to purchase the extracted corn oil based on a fixed discount to prevailing fuel prices for the life of the use of the technology.
