Qatar Airways becomes the 13th full member of the oneworld, joining leading brands from each global region – airberlin, American Airlines, British Airways, Cathay Pacific Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Japan Airlines, LAN Airlines, Malaysia Airlines, Qantas, Royal Jordanian, S7 Airlines and some 30 affiliated airlines. More than 20 of the Gulf carrier’s destinations and five countries – Ethiopia, Iran, Rwanda, Serbia and Tanzania – will be new to the oneworld map.
The alliance is in the midst of its biggest expansion in history, with the addition of Malaysia Airlines earlier this year and the pending arrival of SriLankan Airlines next year. Brazil’s TAM is also set to join, as well as other members of the LATAM group not already in oneworld. In addition, US Airways proposes to switch from Star to oneworld as part of its planned merger with American Airlines, subject to necessary approvals.
With Qatar Airways and the other airlines lining up to join, oneworld will serve almost a thousand airports in more than 150 countries with 14,000 daily departures, carrying 480 million passengers a year on a combined fleet of almost 3,500 aircraft, all the while generating some USD 140 billion in annual revenues.
Qatar Airways received clearance to board oneworld after successfully completing a thorough review of its readiness conducted by British Airways, which is sponsoring Qatar Airways’ entry into the alliance, with oneworld’s central team.

Finnair Plc Stock Exchange Release 12 September 2013 8.00 a.m. EET
Finnair has entered into an agreement with a Japanese aircraft leasing company NBB to sell and leaseback two new Airbus A321 Sharklet aircraft. The transaction was arranged by US-based lessor BBAM. The lease periods are 12 years.
“The current good state of the aircraft financing market allows sale and leaseback arrangements on very competitive terms. Thanks to our strong balance sheet, we are in a position to flexibly choose the most economical financing sources when renewing our fleet - and at the same time optimize the balance between owned and leased aircraft," says Finnair's CFO Erno Hildén.
Finnair has ordered in total five Airbus 321 Sharklet aircraft from Airbus. The first aircraft was delivered to Finnair on September 5, 2013. Two more aircraft will be delivered in the last quarter of 2013 and the final two in the first quarter of 2014. The announced sale and leaseback arrangement concerns the first two aircraft. The new A321s will replace the four Boeing 757 aircraft currently used in Finnair's leisure traffic.

As part of a meal service renewal underway at Finnair, Business Class customers will be able to enjoy new Signature Menus created by well-known Finnish chefs Pekka Terävä and Tomi Björck.
“In-flight dining is an important part of a distinctive travel experience," says Maarit Keränen, Finnair’s Head of Service Concept. "Both Pekka and Tomi have a fresh style that is distinct from the mainstream. Pekka Terävä’s classic Nordic flavors are a natural fit with Finnair's identity, while Tomi Björck’s Finnish take on Asian cuisine supports our Eastward outlook. I believe that the new meals will delight Finnair's customers and raise the international profile of Finnish culinary culture.”
“My menu is influenced by the purity of Finnish nature, taking advantage of Finnish natural ingredients such as seasonal vegetables and wild game and fish," says Terävä, whose menu includes such Finnish specialties as reindeer fillet with mushroom puree, oven-baked potatoes and organic barley.
"My chosen ingredients are meant to reflect the passion in modern Asian cuisine," says Björck, whose menu is inspired by Thai and Japanese food and offers both meat-based dishes and vegetarian options, such as butternut squash dressed in a symphony of Asian spices. Japanese ramen noodles and spicy salmon complete his menu.
Specially selected prize-winning wines complement both Signature Menus.
The Signature Menus will be introduced on Business Class long-haul flights throughout the autumn excluding Chongqing, Xi´an and Hanoi.
About the chefs
Tomi Björck’s award-winning restaurants in Helsinki include the Asia-inspired Farang and Gaijin as well as the Mediterranean-focused Boulevard Social. Farang Stockholm opened in February 2013.
Pekka Terävä is chef at Helsinki’s Michelin-starred Restaurant Olo, where fresh and pure ingredients are combined to create modern Scandinavian cuisine.
