Damit fiel der FDIC mit 8,2 Mrd USD ins Soll, das durch die Mobilisierung von Rücklagen ausgeglichen wurde. Es war das zweite Mal in der Geschichte der FDIC, dass sie rote Zahlen ausweisen musste. Mit den fünfzig Bankenpleiten wurden zudem die meisten Zusammenbrüche seit dem zweiten Quartal 1990 verzeichnet. Gleichzeitig erhöhte sich dem Einlagenversicherer zufolge die Zahl der Problembanken auf 552 von 416 Ende Juni dieses Jahres.
