Germany’s Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club (ADAC) Becomes 1,500th KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Non-Process Plate Customer

Europe’s largest automobile and motorcyclist club, the Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil Club (ADAC), now utilizes KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Non-Process Plates at its in-house printing department located in Munich, Germany. This latest installation at ADAC marks the 1,500th KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Plate customer.

As more commercial and publication printers opt for more sustainable solutions, like process-free technology, the customer demand for KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Non-Process Plates continues to increase. ADAC chose KODAK Plates to improve its prepress productivity and lessen the environmental impact of its printing jobs.

ADAC’s printing department required an efficient plate solution to improve and manage its extensive printing jobs. Kodak’s THERMAL DIRECT Plates deliver the resolution and imaging accuracy of thermal, digital plates while eliminating the installation, management and maintenance of traditional processors and processing chemistry.

“The KODAK THERMAL DIRECT Plates provide outstanding image resolution with all the reliability and repeatability of traditionally processed thermal plates. Plus, with the reduced environmental footprint, we can still stay aligned with our goals of greater sustainability. It is a win-win for our printing department,” said Stefan Almer, ADAC head of printing.

THERMAL DIRECT Plates use a write-the-image, non-ablative technology, where final image preparation occurs on press as part of the makeready process, without any press contamination. The plates eliminate the need to manage processing chemicals and their effluents, and can be imaged by all popular thermal CTP devices on the market today.

By eliminating the processing step, THERMAL DIRECT Plates shorten the platemaking cycle and can deliver more jobs per shift, which means increased efficiency for ADAC. Removing traditional processing steps also eliminates cost, as well as any variability associated with processing. Ultimately, the overall productivity and stability of the digital platemaking process is improved.

“We are pleased to celebrate the recognition of our 1,500th Thermal Direct Non-Process Plates customer,” said Doug Edwards, General Manager, Prepress Solutions, Kodak. “Reaching this milestone affirms our viewpoint that process-free technology has become widely accepted and is moving into the mainstream of commercial and publications printing.”

Eastman Kodak Divests Insignificant Division, Muddles Management Structure, Stock Jumps 20%

Eastman Kodak(EK) was once synonymous with photography and imaging. Today, like the abandoned subwayin its home town of Rochester, it stands as a hulking relic testifying to the lost hopes and dreams of a bygone era.  Kodak’s

The logo from 1987 to 2006. "Evolution of...

moments are now but a series of shadowy images of past glory wafting away.  This afternoon, the company issued two press releases.  The first, announcing an agreement to sell Eastman Gelatine for an undisclosed amount, stated that it was

consistent with its previously announced intention to sell non-core assets to sharpen the Company’s focus on its digital growth initiatives and accelerate Kodak’s transformation to a digital company

It’s a good thing the visionaries at Kodak have recognized the future is digital and have decided to sharpen their digital focus and accelerate their transition to digital. If only it were 1995! The company sold a minor division with just 95 employees for an amount it chose not to disclose, nor did it disclose any details about the division’s revenue nor profitability. In short, this is an immaterial event that has little impact on Kodak’s fight to remain solvent.

The second announcement, which was quite brief, noted the election of Laura Quatela, currently General Counsel, as President.  What about Philip Faraci, the current President? No problem, he’s also President. No doubt Kodak noted how effective it has been for Research In Motion(RIMM) to have co-CEOs and decided to emulate that company’s stunning success.  CEO Antonio Perez noted that the move reflected the strategic importance of the company’s intellectual property.  Kodak has 3 towering legacies: a brand synonymous with photography, a wealth of patents covering imaging technologies, and a crippling pension obligation.  The company invented much of modern imaging yet was slow to transition to the new world and gave up leadership to others. The market holds out hope regarding the value of patents and today’s 20% jump after hours is clearly a reaction to Ms. Quatela’s appointment as President.  Even in this act, the company has proved tentative, keeping Mr. Faraci in place.  This lack of decisiveness and vision led to the company’s spiral downwards, and it may eliminate any chance the once-great company has of voiding bankruptcy.

„We are an asset-rich Company, and we have many tools in our kit. Keep in mind that our expected year-end cash position does not contemplate a new financing or the sale of our IP portfolio. We expect to reach this range by executing our operational plans, in generating full-year sales of non-strategic assets of approximately $200 million, and intellectual property licensing transactions between $250 million and $350 million.“

„In line with our seasonal cash flow patterns, we expect to generate a significant amount of cash in the fourth quarter As you know, the fourth quarter historically has been, by far, our largest cash producing quarter, and we expect to finish the year with $1.3 billion to $1.4 billion in cash, excluding the proceeds from the sale of the digital imaging patent portfolio.“

“We announced in July our intention to explore strategic alternatives for approximately 1,100 US digital imaging patents. These patents represent approximately 10% of our patent portfolio and are not strategic to the new Company that we are building. We are very pleasedwith the progress that we have made with this project and with the level of interest in the portfolios.“

„When we look at the fourth quarter, we expect that our consumer inkjet product line, as a whole, will have a positive gross profit for the first time since we launched the product line. This is a very important key milestone for this business.“

„It is important to recognize that the cash performance of the Company in 2012 will not be the same as in 2011. In 2012, our cash performance from our digital businesses will be much stronger. Our growth initiatives will be further along the product life cycle curve and getting closer to profitability. As planned, we have been implementing a transformational strategy in Digital Capture and Devices which will significantly reduce its cash requirements as I just described to you. All of that will improve our cash performance in 2012 notably.“

Eastman Kodak: Neue Doppelspitze soll das Schlimmste verhindern

Kategorie: US-Markt News | Datum: 23.12. 18:51

As I did one, I can tell you that it was the closest thing that I've seen in my life. You go through your roadshow,(ALREADY DONE!) which is painful, all around the world, make all your presentations, answer all your questions. That's the marketing part of the IPO. Then there's a due diligence part(ALREADY DONE!). All these parties, they come and they check and recheck, and they go to the data room and everything else and then they start to put bids (ALREADY DONE!). And then you start to negotiate(DONE - ANY DAY NOW!). The process is going well ($3 BILL.). The patent portfolio is very valuable ($3 BILL.). We have one of the best, I said publicly, the best IP team in the industry, and we have a portfolio completely proven that applies to a variety of products and a variety of companies they haven't been licensed to this portfolio yet(MANY COMPANIES!). So we run into 3 things at the same time. We're very confident in our portfolio. We're confident in the system. We're confident in the sale of the patent portfolio.(AMEN!)

"Phil and Laura will be responsible for creating a new and simpler business structure designed to increase productivity, reduce cost, and complete Kodak's transformation into a digital company that delivers sustainable profitability and creates value for it's stakeholders. The new structure, once completed, will allow us to allocate resources more productively, signficantly reduce administrative costs, and improve efficiency. We expect to announce more information broadly about the new structure in January."
