AMD profit, sales surge on chip demand (AMD) By Matt Andrejczak

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) late Tuesday posted a better-than expected profit of $76 million, or 18 cents a share, in the third quarter. That compares with net income of $44 million, or 12 cents, a year ago. Revenue rose 23% to $1.52 billion, thanks to improving sales of chips for computers and corporate servers. The results blew past analysts expectations for a profit of 8 cents on revenue of $1.378 billion, according to Thomson First Call. Sunnyvale, Calif.-based AMD is the No. 2 maker of PC chips. The stock closed at $23.29, up 18 cents.

AMD meldet kräftigen Umsatzanstieg, Erwartungen übertroffen

Die Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD) (ISIN US0079031078/ WKN 863186) legte am Dienstag nach US-Börsenschluss die Zahlen für das dritte Quartal 2005 vor. Dabei konnte der zweitgrößte Chip-Hersteller in den USA ein kräftiges Umsatzplus erzielen und auch beim Ergebnis deutlich zulegen, was auf eine starke Nachfrage nach Computerchips zurückgeführt wird.
Das Nettoergebnis belief sich auf 76 Mio. Dollar bzw. 18 Cents je Aktie , nach 44 Mio. Dollar bzw. 12 Cents je Aktie im Vorjahreszeitraum. Die Analysten hatten im Vorfeld ein Ergebnis von 8 Cents je Aktie erwartet.

Die Umsatzerlöse stiegen von 1,239 Mrd. Dollar auf nun 1,523 Mrd. Dollar. Die Analysten schätzten die Umsätze zuvor auf durchschnittlich 1,38 Mrd. Dollar.

Für das vierte Quartal erwarten die Analysten ein EPS von 16 Cents bei Umsätzen von 1,51 Mrd. Dollar.

Die AMD-Aktie schloss heute an der NYSE bei 23,29 Dollar. Nachbörslich gewinnt die Aktie 0,04 Prozent auf 23,30 Dollar.

Apple Computer reports $430 million fourth-quarter profit (AAPL) By Rex Crum
SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Apple Computer (AAPL) on Tuesday reported a fourth-quarter profit of $430 million, or 50 cents a share. During the same period a year ago, Apple earned $106 million, or 13 cents a share, on $2.35 billion in revenue. Excluding a 12-cents-a-share tax benefit, the company earned 38 cents a share to beat estimates of analysts surveyed by Thomson First Call, who forecast a profit of 37 cents a share. However, Apple's revenue of $3.68 billion was shy of analysts' $3.74 billion consensus estimate, sending Apple shares down more than 8% in after-hours trading.
