Institute for Biology III of the University of Freiburg - Germany - Selects SciQuest to Provide e-Research Services to Scientists
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C. & FREIBURG, Germany--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 13, 2000--

The SciQuest solution cuts procurement costs and reduces

processing time, giving scientists of the Institute of Biology

III more time for mission-critical research

SciQuest (NASDAQ: SQST - news), a builder and operator of private marketplaces and supply chain solutions focused exclusively on leading research enterprises and their supplier partners worldwide, announced today an agreement to provide its Internet-based research product procurement platform for the Institute of Biology III (IB3) at the University of Freiburg in Germany for evaluation.

``Our institute selected SciQuest for our e-marketplace for scientific products because of its focus on the scientific industry, dedication to streamlining the supply chain, and premier customer service,'' said Mr. Dr. Reinhard Gross, the Academic Director. ``The SciQuest team is extremely responsive to our needs and is working very closely with us to create a system to meet our specific purchasing requirements and regulations. We are excited by the opportunity to be on the leading edge of this new technology.''

``This customer in Europe further illustrates how SciQuest is successfully leveraging our existing technology, catalog services, reagent & compound management solutions, and proprietary implementation methodology to meet the requirements of doing business in the European Community,'' said Scott Andrews, SciQuest's co-founder and CEO.

``The Institute of Biology III of the University of Freiburg is a highly respected research organization and we're very pleased to work with them to provide their scientists the benefits of a SciQuest private marketplace,'' said Dr. Hans Peter Fatscher, SciQuest's vice president and general manager for Europe.

``Our solution streamlines the entire supply chain, allowing scientists to minimize the amount of time spent procuring supplies, while maximizing the amount of time available for research and discovery,'' said Antony Francis, SciQuest's vice president of global operations. ``Moreover, by integrating into existing enterprise applications, we are supporting the business objectives and necessary controls required by larger customers. This validates our ability to leverage our five years of experience to the benefit of our customers. It is another indication of the benefits of our focused approach to solving problems for our customers on a global basis.''

Francis was recently promoted from vice president of operations to vice president of global operations. ``This promotion leverages Antony's 25 years of experience in worldwide logistics management,'' Andrews explained. Prior to joining SciQuest, he was vice president/general manager of the Electronic Commerce and Customer Services Division for the Federal Express European, Middle Eastern and African headquarters.
