The Cabinet of Ministers has improved its forecast for Ukraine's GDP growth rate in 2004 from 9.5% to 10.5%.
Finance Minister Mykola Azarov said that the Cabinet of Ministers followed the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund during the initial drafting of the state budget for 2004 and took an excessively conservative approach. No real budget deficit exists today because all expenditures are backed by resources; also, there are presently no objective reasons for the 6.3% inflation forecast on which the budget is based to be exceeded, since this year's expected crop harvest will significantly contribute to deflation.
