would consider buying other insurers in an expected
shake-up of the industry, one of its board members told a
newspaper on Wednesday.
"We don't rule out takeovers and acquisitions," Reiner
Hagemann told the Financial Times Deutschland. "We will look
closely at companies that are offered to us."
Germany's life insurance industry is expected to face a
shake-up in coming years that could see many firms vanish or be
swallowed up by others as they come under pressure from falling
stock markets and adverse interest rate moves.
Allianz, Europe's biggest insurer, has also suffered. It
denied this week that it would have to resort to a capital
increase as market speculation it may have to shore up its
balance sheet drove the stock to 10-year-lows.
