DJ UBS Raises Gold Cos On Recent Stk Drop, $460/oz Forecast

.
By Heather Draper
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

DENVER (Dow Jones)--UBS upgraded several gold companies on Tuesday based on a recent drop in gold stocks and sentiment that gold commodity prices will strengthen in 2005.

The recent pullback in gold commodity prices in the last three weeks has meant gold equities valuations have dropped 11% on average, UBS analyst Tony Lesiak wrote in a research note.

The February gold futures contract traded at around $442 a troy ounce on Comex recently, down nearly 4% since its close on Dec. 3.

UBS dubbed the drop in gold prices a short-term correction and forecast a strengthening gold price in 2005, with an average of $460 a troy ounce in the fourth quarter of next year.

Lesiak cited several factors for a continuing strong gold price in 2005: a weak U.S. dollar, inflationary concerns, buying by Asian central banks and the effect of gold exchange-traded fund buying.

UBS upgraded Newmont Mining Corp. (NEM), Barrick Gold Corp. (ABX), Placer Dome Inc. (PDG), Kinross Gold Corp. (KGC), Minas Buenaventura (BVN) and Golden Star Resources Ltd. (GSS) to buy from neutral and raised Eldorado Gold Corp. (EGO) to neutral from reduce.

Lesiak doesn't own shares of any of the companies mentioned. UBS makes a market in some of the securities and has provided investment banking services to several of the companies.

UBS upbeat on metals mining shares.
Tuesday 12/21/2004, 4:16pm

UBS upgraded a handful of gold miners today. The brokerage attributed the upgrades primarily to valuation following a recent decline in their stock prices, which was prompted by a pullback in gold prices.

Analyst Tony Lesiak expects gold prices to continue to strengthen next year, with an average of about $460 an ounce projected in the fourth quarter of 2005.

The UBS analyst upgraded Barrick Gold(ABX), Golden Star (GSS).

GOLDEN STAR TO EXPLORE THE AFEMA (ABOISO) LICENSE IN CÔTE D’IVOIRE, WEST AFRICA

Denver, Colorado, March 29, 2005: Golden Star Resources Ltd. (TSX: GSC; AMEX: GSS) is pleased to announce that it has entered into an agreement with Société d’Etat pour le Développement Minier de la Côte d’Ivoire Mines (‘SO.DE.MI.”), the Côte d’Ivoire State Mining and Exploration Company, to acquire the Afema (also previously known as the Aboiso) property in south-east Côte d’Ivoire.

The Afema property covers an area of 2,012 square kilometers of prospective Birimian rocks which represent the extension of the Sefwi Belt meta-volcanics and the Kumasi Basin meta-sedimentary rocks into Côte d’Ivoire. In Ghana, this ‘belt-basin’ contact hosts the multi-million ounce Chirano and Bibiani Gold Deposits. A map is attached and is otherwise available on our web site at

www.gsr.com

Oxide mineralization at Afema was mined in the 1990s from a number of small, shallow open pits along a 12 km strike-length resulting in the production of some 125,000 ounces of gold. Subsequently, Anmercosa Exploration signed a joint venture with Eden Roc but no exploration was conducted prior to their withdrawal in 2000.

Under the terms of the acquisition agreement, Golden Star will make an immediate payment of $100,000 (all amounts in this news release are in U.S. dollars) to SO.DE.MI. and will then have the right to carry out a six month detailed technical due diligence, after which Golden Star will have the right to complete the transaction to acquire 100% of SO.DE.MI.’s rights in the Afema property for $1.5 million. Upon completion of the acquisition of SO.DE.MI.’s rights, Golden Star will have a 90% interest in the Afema property and the Government of Côte d’Ivoire will have a 10% interest. In addition to the acquisition payments, Golden Star will pay SO.DE.MI. a royalty on gold production from the Afema property. The royalty rate shall be indexed to the gold price. At current gold prices (in the range of $375 to $450 per ounce) the royalty rate would be 2.5%.

Golden Star has indicated to SO.DE.MI. that it intends to spend at least $500,000 on exploration in the first six months and may, subject to exploration success, spend a further spend $3.5 million over the next three and a half years.

Peter Bradford, President and CEO, said “We see significant potential in Côte d’Ivoire on the same mineralized structures that have been mined in Ghana for many years. The past mining and exploration at Afema has been quite limited and we envisage significant potential on the 12 kilometers of strike that has been previously mined and on the 15 kilometers of untested contact zone towards the Ghanaian border. We are confident that, in time, the political situation in Côte d’Ivoire will be resolved. Our decision to acquire these assets at this time is therefore not unlike our counter-cyclical decision in the late 1990s to acquire our first toehold on the Ashanti trend when the potential of those assets was largely unrecognized.

(COMTEX) B: Birim Goldfields Inc.: Golden Star Begins Extensive Exploratio
Program on Dunkwa Royalty Property ( CCNMatthews )
B: Birim Goldfields Inc.: Golden Star Begins Extensive Exploration Program on Du
kwa Royalty Property ( CCNMatthews )

MONTREAL, QUEBEC, Mar 30, 2005 (CCNMatthews via COMTEX) -- Birim Goldfields
Inc. (TSX:BGI) ("Birim" or "the Company") wishes to inform its shareholders that
Golden Star Resources Ltd. ("Golden Star") has commenced an extensive US$1.1
million work program on Birim's original Dunkwa concession in Ghana which
includes the Mampon gold deposit.

Forecast exploration expenditure reported by Golden Star for the Dunkwa
concession for 2005 totals US$1.1 million. The programs will involve diamond
drilling, reverse circulation drilling ("RC") and Rotary Air Blast ("RAB")
drilling at Mampon and RC and RAB drilling along the projected strike of the
Main Crush Zone from Opon, in the southern portion of the concession to North of
Mampon. Total estimated drilling for 2005 is approximately 18,000 meters of RC,
3,000 meters of Diamond and 14,000 meters of RAB. The 2005 exploration programs
have been designed to prove up the Mampon reserves and collect relevant data for
the completion of permitting and detailed mine planning on this gold deposit.
The RC and RAB drilling programs are designed both to infill previous drilling
and to test new soil geochemical and geophysical targets.

Drilling has now commenced on the Mampon deposit with eight holes totaling 640
meters already completed in February. The metallurgical drilling program is
expected to be completed in March and samples will be selected and sent to
Ammtec Laboratories in Perth for processing. An additional 4 geotechnical holes
will be drilled following the completion of this program. Data collected from
the metallurgical and geotechnical programs will be used to complete the
feasibility study on this project.

In August 2003, Birim and Golden Star announced a transaction which entitles
Birim to receive royalty payments for all gold recovered from the Dunkwa
concession, which includes the Mampon gold deposit. The terms of the sale
transaction provided Birim with an initial royalty payment of US$3.4 million for
the first 200,000 ounces of gold recovered from the Mampon deposit. All Mampon
gold production exceeding 200,000 ounces and any additional production from
other deposits on the Dunkwa property is subject to a sliding scale net smelter
return ("NSR") royalty varying between 2.0 and 3.5 percent, dependent upon the
gold price as noted below:

Average Quarterly Gold Price (London P.M. Gold Fix) Royalty
--------------------------------------------------
Equal to and less than $300/oz 2.0%
Greater than $300/oz and equal and less than $350/oz 2.5%
Greater than $350/oz and equal and less than $400/oz 3.0%
Greater than $400/oz 3.5%

Birim Goldfields Inc. is a royalty-based exploration company and trades on the
Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol BGI.

Hallo,

LONDON (AFX) - Mano River Resources Inc and joint venture partner Golden Star Resources Ltd said new gold zones were discovered on the Pampana and Sonfon projects in Sierra Leone.

"The identification of these previously unknown gold zones provides confidence that there is excellent potential to generate major new gold discoveries in the highly prospective but largely unexplored Archean greenstone terrains of Sierra Leone," said Dr Douglas Jones, vice president of exploration at Golden Star.

Follow-up drilling on Pampana and Sonfon is expected to start in the second quarter of 2006. A budget of 750,000 usd, which will be funded by Golden Star, has been allocated to the initial phase of this work.

weißt du noch was du schreibst?
Überverkauft?
Heute ging sie auf 0,92. Mal eben so -25%.
